The iittala UT000258 Ultima Thule 19.5" centerpiece bowl represents thousands of hours spent perfecting the glass blowing technique required to produce this bubble/crackle effect. The forms imitate nature and gradually change as the molten glass burns the surface of the wooden molds. This glass is part of an extensive collection of other pieces just like it. Glimmering with clear, textured surfaces, the organic collection evokes wintry water images like cascading icicles or a frost-covered window. This centerpiece bowl makes a striking statement filled with fruit, flowers, or holiday candies. With a clean, precision-cut rim, the body features low walls and a pleasantly rounded shape accented by bubbles of glass around the base that look as if they might drip right off. Small, round feet hold the vessel off the table-so the glass looks wet, but your table stays dry. Each piece is crafted in a wood mold and obtains its own special markings in the glass-blowing process. Despite its elegant appearance, the bowl goes conveniently into the dishwasher.
