Bought a set from Amazon a couple years ago. Never had any problems until my wife dropped one on the tile floor. That one was finished, so I'm buying another set and will have an extra. I've read the reviews and hopefully am not going to get one from the bad batch this time, but mine have worked great for more than 2 years now and I use them almost every day. The directions specifically state to only fill them about half way, and that may be what is causing people trouble. Even though you want to fill it to the top so you don't have to fill it as often, I think it increases the resistance and can cause problems, and I've followed that and never had any trouble. I definitely recommend these. If yours are like mine, you'll love them!Customer Review: Great Value for the price

I bought these grinders for my mother-in-law over a year ago as a Christmas present. She loves to cook, but is dealing with arthritis in her hands. These grinders were a huge help to her. The first one did recently break, but only after a year of HARD use. 3 meals a day, and lots of time cooking the plastic casing on the pepper mill broke. For the price though I could replace them every year or two and still come out ahead of the more expensive brands. The motor is strong enough to crush pepper and various salts to a fine powder. They look even nicer in person. You wouldn't guess they were the economy choice for grinders. Nice stainless steel finish and a hefty feel in the hand.Customer Review: Buyer Beware!!

I thought this would be a great product. It looks perfect. It has a light so you can see the pepper/salt coming out of the bottom.
Unfortunately this is very cheaply made. The gears inside are plastic. I've had this product less then a month and a week ago the pepper gears wore down and no longer grind the pepper. Now today the gears in the salt grinder don't work.
To return this item, and have to pay for the shipping, isn't worth it to me. If you buy this product, be prepared to return it, or lose your money. Quite a shame, could've been a great product if they would have used metal gears instead of cheap plastic.

I felt getting these would really help when cooking meats and fish. One hand was need to flip the meat and the other for seasoning.
PROS:
- Look nice
- Work well
- Price
CONS:
- That little window is all the space to fit pepper/salt. The instructions say to only fill 80% too. I'd think some more space could be used in the handle.
- You better get a funnel to fill it up. There is just a little hole under the top compartment.
- The grinder has trouble with salt rocks. Seems its not strong enough to grind them well.
OTHER:
- They take 4AA batteries each.

We first tried these at a friend's dinner party, and immediately ordered a set as a gift and one for ourselves. You can grind the salt or pepper into the base, then measure it out (great for cooking), or take off the base and grind it right onto your meal. You can adjust the grind, too.
Everyone who's tried them enjoys them. A great gift and a fun way to salt and pepper your food. (Another plus: there's really no flavor difference between fresh- and pre-ground salt, but this grinder prevents the potential problem of clumping salt in humid weather!)
