Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Zyliss 71372 Metal Ice-Cream Scoop with Ergonomic Plastic Handle, WhiteCustomer Review: Very Pleased Summary: 5 Stars
I wasn't planning on buying an ice scoop because I actually thought what difference could there be between this one and my old aluminum one I had at home? After reading the reviews I bought it since it's not very expensive. I'm so happy I did. First, our aluminum scoop would get these strange white dots on it from the dishwasher so we always had to handwash it. No problem here. It comes out of the dishwasher like new. Also, the edge of the scoop which first makes contact with the ice cream is much finer/sharper than my old one. Thus, it "cuts" the ice cream. It's so easy to use, even my 8 year old who is not particularily strong in her fingers can use it.
Customer Review: Here's the Scoop... Summary: 3 Stars
I've been in search of an ice cream scoop that always releases the ice cream into the dish without sticking to the scoop. After reading all the positive reviews, I thought I had finally found what I was looking for. I couldn't wait to receive my new scoop to try it. I have to say I was disappointed. The scoop is built strong & it is heavy, seems like it will last a long time, but the ice cream does still stick to the scoop at times. The scoop will cut through hard ice cream & it can be used easily by right or left handed people. Perhaps dipping the scoop in hot water may prevent the sticking. For the money I paid, I was expecting perfection which I didn't get.
Customer Review: Sheds Metal Summary: 1 Stars
Great weight and ergonomics. Digs well into hard frozen ice cream. The problem is the scoop began to degrade, pit and lose it's metal coating, revealing a darker metal under the coating. Zyliss replaced the scoop under warranty, w/o any problems. When I received the new scoop, I stopped putting it into the dishwasher, but now, about 9 months later, it is degrading even worse than the original. This is not just an aesthetic problem as it begs the question, what types of metal alloys or coatings are we possibly ingesting and what are the health impacts. Put simply, you shouldn't have to think so much about an ice cream scoop. This product should be recalled.
Customer Review: Won't break when used with really hard ice cream. Summary: 5 Stars
We had the OXO Good Grips Points Ice Cream Scoop and thought it was pretty good. Actually, it was pretty good when we were buying Edy's or Breyer's ice cream. Then I started buying Trader Joe's premium ice cream, which is SO AMAZINGLY GOOD... It's better than Haagen Daaz or Ben & Jerry's, and cheaper, too. Back to the ice cream scoop, though: it broke. It snapped off where that little skinny "metal" neck goes into the handle. And then I learned that it's really made of metal-coated plastic.
It has been replaced with a Zyliss Ice Cream scoop, which ROCKS. I can't imagine how that one would ever break, so now I'll go review that one!
Customer Review: UltaScoop! Summary: 5 Stars
My search for perfection in a ice-cream scoop may have come to an end. Over the years I have tried many an ice cream scoop in many a tub of frozen ice-cream. To date none have come close to the Zyliss scoop in either ease of use or style. (The solid construction looks quite nice) This is the only style of scoop I have found that is superior to the standard metal ice-cream parlor scoop. If you like ice-cream this a must!
I would like to add that after a year of use the metal is starting to flake a little... but if you know scoops, it seems to be bound to happen. I just scrub it off good and it is still my best scoop around.
