Customer Review: Not the best, but soooo close

I was aware of the negative reviews before my purchase (I've had the scooper for at least six months as of this review). The shape and the handle are really nice, it feels good in the hand and scoops very well but it's one problem seems almost universal. The coating does pit and peel in very small flakes. I hand wash the scooper with a sponge, nothing rough, and regular dish soap; nothing more. It really is a shame because initially it's a great product but it won't last. I have been putting off buying a Zeroll but I think that is the next step.
PS:I agree with another reviewer that stated that generally Zyliss makes great products. This COULD be a great product but they have to get rid of that coating.

Most people wouldn't put much thought into something like an ice cream scoop. The farthest they'll go is a momentary fascination with some clever, but ultimately flawed, gimmick or gadget. The folks at Zyliss are not most people and if you actually want an ice cream scoop that does its job well, you'll be impressed with their product. It fits perfectly in the hand, is strudily constructed to give you the power to muscle through thoroughly frozen ice cream, and the shape of the scoop itself helps to cut in a twisting motion through the frozen goodness in such a way that lessens frustration and gets the good stuff in your bowl (and subsequently into your mouth) that much faster. Wow, I can't believe the fervor over finding the perfect ice cream scoop! It almost compares to the search for a better mousetrap.
That said, this scoop is a good one. It is made very strongly and is well balanced to make scooping your ice cream easier, even when it's frozen hard. The thickness of the metal in the scoop part helps to melt the ice cream as you scoop into it. Heating it a bit in hot water would help as well. The handle is easy to hold and attached solidly to the scoop so it should not break. I've had this for 6 months and am very pleased with it's performance. I've washed it in the dishwasher and had no problems with the coating coming off. I recommend it.

The funny thing is that I bought this two years ago, and I just realized I haven't bought a scoop since. That's very unusual for me, because I'm always on the lookout for a better scoop. Apparently, I've found the better scoop!
It is very solid feeling and heavy. No worries about breaking this scoop. The handle is very easy to hold and provides good leverage.
The scoop is very thick aluminum. That really helps when running it under hot water because the scoop will stay warm when it hits the frozen ice cream. Thin scoops are hardly worth heating, as they freeze almost instantly when they hit the ice cream.
No gimmicks here -- it just works!

I'll keep this review brief (as it's been well described already). This is a very well made, beautifully designed kitchen tool. It does what it should, well. It fits your hand nicely. It has the perfect heft, and is very durable (shows no sign of erosion whatsoever after years of repeated use).
To be honest, this review is a bit self-serving. I looked this scoop up when shopping for other kitchen items, as it is about the best designed, highest quality item in my kitchen (and I have lots of pricely kitchen tools). Now when I need something for my kitchen, I start with zyliss, knowing I'm more likely to find something I'll be happy with if I start here.
