I've had a Zyliss cheese grater for over ten years and have found it to be superlative to all of the other cheese graters that I have used over the years. I use it to grate hard cheeses only, like Parmesan, and I use it so frequently that I actually cut my blocks of Parmesan into rectangular cubes immediately when I buy them, then store the pre-cut cubes in a plastic bag in the refrigerator so that they're ready to grate. I just purchased two more Zyliss graters to give as gifts to my family and friends; what better endorsement do you need?!Customer Review: Awful

This is one of the few products I purchased that I ended up disliking. The description is "Cheese Grater" .. it does not grate cheese, it shreds it very finely. The cheese ends up coming out of one side in a long line. Almost like thin string woven around each strand. Then after a little while the middle starts to get clogged up until it is almost solid with cheese. I spend a few minutes having to dig it out.
It probably has it's uses, but it is not a cheese grater and does not work well with standard cheddar.

We had our last cheese grater for a long time and finally had to replace it after it got chewed up by our dog! While this one did not have 5-star reviews it seemed to have the most positive reviews. I would give it 5-stars if it grated cheese by itself! Despite the fact that is doesn't, it is actually a very nice chesse grater, and much more effortless than the previous one we had. I would recommend it - and this comes from a very frequent parmesan cheese grater!!!Customer Review: "Classic" means the way things used to be done.

I bought this cheese grater based on the positive reviews it got in this space. While the Zyliss classic grater is well made and fits my hand nicely, it is a very slow way to grate cheese compared to the MicroPlane graters in my kitchen gadget collection. After several minutes of cranking the Zyliss, I gave up and switched to the more modern, faster, MicroPlane grater. Sometimes "classic" means not better but only "old fashioned"

This device seems well made, but when I tried using it to grate some rather hard cheese, the "in line" cutters on the drum made good initial pieces, but then it stopped grating as the cutters were in their grooves and the smooth portion of the cutter drum just "rode" on the cheese.
I have softer cheese now and will try it again and I still have this problem, I'll contact the designer. (Swiss design, made (of course!) in China).
