Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Zyliss 11370 Classic Rotary-Style Cheese Grater

Customer Review: Great Nut Grater!
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this grater as a replacement for a common American brand on which the plastic hinge pin sheared off. My main use of these graters has been grating hazelnuts (filberts). This Zyliss grater takes much less effort both for the squeezing function as well as the turning function. It also grinds down to the last bit, as opposed to the previous one that always left a thin residue.
The reason I gave it only 4 stars is that it does not do a good job in grating Swiss cheese. The drum construction has a plastic ring at the discharge end which traps the ground cheese inside the drum. I have not used it on a hard cheese, like Parmesan, but imagine that it would work fine on that.

Customer Review: Great product for a reasonable price

Zyliss Classic Cheese Grater
We have had a Zyliss grater for many years. Our first one was over 15 years old before it quit last month. We tried other brands and found them to be lacking in overall design and strength. Making the grating action more difficult because we were afraid the other brand would break. When we received our new Zyliss Classic we were pleased to find the design had not changed very much over the years and it was as strong as our first one. We liked it so much we bought another for our daughter's new home. We highly recommend this Zyliss Classic Cheese Grater.

Customer Review: simply the best for parmesan
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought my first about seven years ago and when the handle finally broke lately (from lots and lots of use), I was shocked that I had trouble finding it in the stores. Not sure why my standard cookware stores (like William Sonoma, let alone Target!) didn't carry it. I bought my original at William Sonoma. WS had a different one I bought which turned out to be useless for parmesan and it cost $8 more than the Zyliss I ultimately found and bought. It does the job for parmesan - grates finely and evenly. easy to clean. good for any of the harder cheeses and you can use it at the table. highly recommend it. I ordered it online.

Customer Review: The only grater to use for hard cheeses
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this grater. I had previously owned the Pampered Chef brand and found it indispensable for grating fresh parmesan. It lasted a few years but now I am going back to what I know to be a good quality brand, Zyliss. (My first Zyliss garlic press lasted 15 years!).

If you read the negative reviews where people say you can't grate soft cheeses... I agree. But to me that is not a negative aspect of this product. This grater is designed for hard cheeses. You can use the box type or the large flat type for softer cheeses. But to get a nice fine grate of parmesan or romano, this is just the utensil that you need.

Customer Review: Don't buy this
Summary: 1 Stars

Here's why this cheese grater is awful:
- The swivel handle is too close to where you hold the grater, so there is no clearance; you can't rotate it freely without hitting the hand that's holding the grater

- You have to put a lot of pressure on the handle to squeeze the cheese against the grating barrel; it's very hard to do this because the design doesn't give you much leverage

- Bits of cheese end up getting stuck in the barrel and going to waste

- I saw something similar to the Oxo Good Grips Box Grate at a restaurant and I think it's a much better choice.
