Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Zojirushi BB-HAC10 Home Bakery 1-Pound-Loaf Programmable Mini Breadmaker

Customer Review: This breadmaker will change your life!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have made bread every single day since I bought this breadmaker. I had a breadmaker in college that I liked well enough, but the appeal of this one was that it was compact and made a small loaf. Since I live alone, I really can't justify making a whole gigantic loaf just for me. So this was a great choice.

Even if you don't get this particular breadmaker, you really should get one no matter what! I was horrified reading the ingredients in storebought bread, so I started buying bread from the fancy healthfood store, which would cost $4 a loaf and didn't taste all that fresh. Now I can control all the ingredients that go into my bread. One thing that I like that never occured to me before I got the breadmaker is that it is very easy to use up leftovers in your bread each day, so nothing goes to waste. I've made banana bread, leftover oatmeal bread, brown rice, roasted red bell peppers, leftover pesto, roasted garlic, strawberries... basically anything in my fridge! It feels really good to be making tasty bread with stuff that would have just gone bad and gotten thrown away anyway.

It will certainly take a long time before I've made enough bread to justify the cost of this breadmaker, but it has definitely brought me $200 worth of enjoyment already!!! Not all my loafs are outstanding. The ones I don't like just get made into croutons! But still, there is nothing I don't like about this little guy. It is the perfect size, perfectly quiet, and makes a really outstanding loaf of bread. I can't wait to try cakes and pizza dough.

Customer Review: Excellent Mini Bakery
Summary: 5 Stars

I love to cook, but as a single person, I've never been a baker.
However, I became tired of purchasing artisan breads
and having to freeze half a loaf of this, half a loaf of that.
Picture my "littered" freezer! After comparing other bread makers
and reading reviews, I decided to try this one and bake on my own.
This appliance is exactly as described, far more compact than
most units; but since my counter space is limited, I still prefer
to store it in a "mud closet" or appliance larder. The mini baker
lifts out and goes back into the larder easily. It cleans up in a snap.
Best yet, I immediately tried it out two times in two days
with guests. The preparation was a dream, almost effortless.
I just followed the simple directions exactly, and voila!
Each loaf baked perfectly. It was a delight to serve fresh bread!
The only draw back is that although hot and fresh,
the cheese/onion bread and the banana bread tasted bland,
too "white". So, on my next batch of bread I plan NOT to use
the Sojirushi recipes but rather other recipes in a book
for bread makers that I bought separately from Amazon.com
If you do not have a good bread knife,I would purchase that, too.
In sum: I picture myself baking weekly and exploring
all kinds of different breads, even pizza dough and pasta!
This is a reliable product, convenient to use and store,
a very good investment to consider when "feathering the nest".
Enjoy!

Summary: 5 Stars

Zojirushi BB-HAC10 Home Bakery 1-Pound-Loaf Programmable Mini Breadmaker
This is my first Breadmaker machine and I love it. It does all that one would expect from a breadmaker. Cleaning is easy so long as you allow the container to COOL FIRST, then I use COLD water to wash out residual dough, then wash in hot water and soap. I've made cake, regular white bread, french bread(my favorite), Banana Nut Bread(really more of a cake).
Couple things to know...get the bread flour, quick acting yeast, and dry milk powder from your supermarket; these will be used regularly. If you are not the type to read instructions, then read this...spoon your flours into a measuring cup that has a flat rim and then level using a knife or flat utensil; do not shake it down or tamp it down. The supplied measuring cup that is plastic is ONLY FOR LIQUIDS.
And lastly, if you are the type to experiment(I am), then do yourself a favor and NEVER set it and forget it! Your dough may rise much higher than you expect and can overflow around the sides of the container and then get baked into the machine. This will not be a fun experience. You will be much better off if you watch the process and remove dough if you find during your experiment that you have too much.
If you do follow the recipes, then you have no worries and can expect to use this breadmaker for years to come with always fresh and delicious bread!

Customer Review: Basic but high quality model that's great at what it does
Summary: 5 Stars

Background: I owned a big breadman ultimate model that made two pound loaves and was extremely programmable, but unfortunately died after only a few loaves. At at that point I began to research breadmakers with an eye to quality and found that Zojirushi was the only brand that really fit the bill. While very expensive, they had a reputation for quality and were the only breakmaker that actually had service centers that would refurbish the machines if they failed. Try to find that with any of the other brands! I have owned this machine for about 5 months and use it about once a week.

The Good: This machine is tiny, well made, and cooks GREAT bread. It's also extremely quiet and stable - you barely hear the kneading cycles and it doesn't try to walk off the counter like some units do. It's the perfect size for two people, if you eat a sandwich or two or bread with your meal a few times a week.

The (not too) Bad: It is not a versatile unit, but you pretty much know that going in. There are a few options like two crust colors, quick rise, jam, add-ins alarm and a 13-hour timer. I will also say that I have not had a great deal of success with whole wheat loaves in this machine, but white bread and flavored breads are top notch. The location of the window (directly over the loaf) can mean that the very center of the bread loaf isn't browned like the rest. That might be an issue if you gift a lot of bread, but it doesn't affect the quality of the finished loaf.

Customer Review: This appliance rocks!
Summary: 5 Stars

I used to occasionally make handmade bread at home, but having to be "on stand by" for the various steps for hours just didn't work with my lifestyle. The price of store bought bread is getting ridiculous for some flour and a little yeast. SO, I decided to treat myself to this appliance based on the good reviews and I chose the Zo-mini for my small family. I LOVE IT. It only takes a few minutes to put the ingredients in the machine--not really much more complicated than setting up your coffee maker. I usually check it during the first kneading cycle to be sure the dough is the right consistency...then I'm outta there until about the time I expect it to be done. So far, every loaf has been wonderful. I love that the appliance came with an instructional DVD! It's like taking a course in using your machine! The information is also duplicated in a manual. And, at $3+ per loaf for store bought, I'm sure the Zo is going to pay for itself. My biggest complaint is that the instruction book has very limited recipes, which in my mind does not really "promote" how great this machine can be. I have several books but I recommend that you purchase right along with your new Zo, Bread Machine Magic by Rehberg and Conway. This book has the recipes set up for 1 lb loaves and a huge variety. Trust me--you will be enjoying wonderful fresh bread in short order. The loaf size is excellent for singles and couples, and it easy to bake and enjoy really fresh bread every few days.
