Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Zojirushi BB-HAC10 Home Bakery 1-Pound-Loaf Programmable Mini Breadmaker

Customer Review: First loaf a big success!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just received my mini-Zo and I loved it as soon as I took it out of the box! (Amazon shipped it very quickly and it arrived sooner than I expected. I'm still waiting for the recipe books I ordered to go with it.) It's compact, aesthetically pleasing and appears to be very well made. I will have no problem leaving it out on the counter top! So, I set it up last night using the Whole Wheat recipe in the brochure and programmed the timer so it would be ready at 7 am. It couldn't have been easier and the outcome was wonderful! (I used King Arthur ww flour.) I posted a pic if you want to see...

Because of the price, I really did my research before buying and I think I read every single comment on the Zo (and others) before buying. The Zo comments were all pretty much ravs and that convinced me. (I almost bought the Sunbeam for a lot less and I'm glad I didn't.) Even though I've only had the mini Zo for one day, I am totally pleased with the purchase and I can't wait to try out other bread recipes, make jam, pizza dough, etc. At $170, it may take a while pay for itself, but in any case I'm anticipating that the increased quality, taste and convenience will make it a worthy purchase.

One thing I was slightly concerned about was that the loaf would be too small. WRONG! If this is considered a "half loaf," it's half of a huge loaf! There are 3 in our family and it is plenty big enough! I'm guessing it will last about 2 days, but we'll see. Even if I end up making bread every single day, so what? It's just so easy! (I followed the recommendation of other users and sprayed Pam on the blade/paddle before adding ingredients to prevent it from sticking in the baked loaf and it worked like a dream.)

Customer Review: Best Little Breadmaker
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the Zojirushi BB-HAC10 as a companion to my 18 year old 2lb Pillsbury Bread Machine. Since my other machine was so old it did not have all the bells and whistles the Zojirushi does, but was still in good working order so I did not want a new full sized machine. This little guy was just the ticket. I can't believe how quiet the machine is. You couldn't ask for more options. Between the bread making, rapid bake, dough, cake, amd jam settings your just crazy trying to figure out what to make next. The instructions are very clear and their website has a few more recipes to compliment the ones in the manual. Extremely compact, fits right on the shelf next to my other bread machine. Non-stick coating on pan works well, clean up is a breeze. Some might think that this machine is over priced. I was able to pick this item up for 148.00 with free shipping. For what you get I think it is priced fairly. Nothing else compares to the size, quality or the ease of use of this machine. If you have used a bread machine before you will love this one. The loaves are the perfect size for whipping together something quick to snack on and you are able to eat it before it goes bad. I like to make my own french bread for french toast. This makes just the right sized loaf for a batch of french toast. The lid comes off for easy cleaning and access to the interior. Rubber feet keep it in place, on the counter, while it is working. LCD screen is easy to see and use. The only negative is the "add" signal should be a bit louder and go off for at least a full minute. If you are out of the room you will miss the signal to add in your extra ingredients, like nuts or seeds. I am very pleased with this mutli-use kitchen gadget.

Customer Review: Perfect for Singles, Apartment Dwellers, and Couples....
Summary: 5 Stars

The Zojirushi BB-HAC10 breadmaker is terrific for couples, singles, or apartment dwellers wanting a small loaf of bread (1 LB). While at first, its price may be offsetting, it is a fantastic device and made of high quality materials. Most breadmakers are too large and end up being stored in the closet, but this machine is small, sleek, and bakes perfect loaves of bread. It is the same width as my toaster and is small enough to keep out on an apartment kitchen counter. The loaves on regular cycles take between 3:40-3:00 to bake, but it has a timer and a "keep warm" feature. It is quiet and an 8-year old could easily operate its simple push button controls.

It has an even-heating element, and a good quality, heavy, non-stick baking pan, which is a snap to clean up. It has a pasta/cookie dough feature and a jam (!) feature. The tiny paddle is actually surprisingly efficient at making dough for cookies and such.

One caveat: It bakes a small, vertical loaf of bread and a 1 LB loaf is smaller than you think it is. So the "rounded" part on top takes up about 1/4 of the entire loaf. Also, your bottom slice will have a gaping hole where the paddle bakes into it. While this is not much of a problem for a large 2 LB loaf, for this small loaf, it is a bit of a waste.

We have had a Zojirushi since the early 90's and although we found it consistently made excellent bread, it wasn't getting used very often because it was large and the 2LB loaves simply weren't getting eaten. After downsizing, we found that this breadmaker is fabulous because it makes small enough loaves that you can experiment with tons of different recipes and throw away a botched recipe without feeling bad about waste.

Customer Review: Best Little Bread Machine
Summary: 5 Stars

I received this bread machine as a Christmas gift. I had researched many bread machines and wanted this one because it was smaller and took up less counter space. Also, I'd rather make my own food than purchase processed food in the store.

This bread machine is fantastic. I love the smaller size of the loaves. I have made the basic white bread, whole wheat bread, whole wheat buns, jam and the oatmeal cookies. My favorite bread is the basic white bread but I add 1/3 cup of whole golden flaxseed (from Trader Joe's) when the timer beeps (the timer beeps around the 20 minute mark so you can add additional items). Not only does the bread smell good, but the smaller loaves are just perfect. In addition, I feel more full when I have a slice of this bread versus the store bought. I have a slice in addition to a salad or I just cut a slice of bread in half and make a grilled cheese sandwich.

The jam setting works great. I have made blueberry jam twice. It is delicious. Just remember to crush the fruit in a blender first, before you add it to the bread machine. I love having blueberry jam on a slice of toasted home made bread. For kids, you can take a slice of the home made bread, cut it in half and make a peanut butter and blueberry jam sandwich. Mmmm....

The only issue I encountered, was the paddle. Initially, I had some issues getting the paddle out. Other users suggested Pam, however that didn't work for me. Now I simply fill the bread pan 1/4 full with water and then it loosens the paddle and it comes right out.

The only downside to the machine, is that I haven't figured out a way not to eat it when it comes out of the machine!

Customer Review: Well worth the money!
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading the reviews, I asked for this little workhorse for Christmas, and I am one satisfied customer! So far I've made 7 perfect loaves of bread in the past 18 days. The size of the loaf is just right for the two of us. A larger loaf would get stale. It makes wonderful toast. Far better tasting than even higher end store-bought bread. I don't want to eat any other bread than the loaves I make with my Zojirushi . I'm the kind of cook who can't help changing the recipe, so I've tweaked it a bit. I start with the basic recipe on the side of the machine. Instead of 2/3 cup water, I use 7/8 cup 2% milk and eliminate the dried milk powder. Instead of 1 Tablespoon butter, I use 2 Tablespoons, because I like a crustier crust. Instead of 1 Tablespoon sugar, I use 2 Tablespoons. I add a packet of fast-rising yeast, which is more than the 1 teaspoon called for, but it works for me, as I use the milk straight from the fridge. When I warmed the milk first, the loaf rose a lot higher, but the loaf was still great, even though it pressed against the window.
No worries with this machine. It's fun to watch it work the dough. It's such a cute little machine and it works so hard and well at its job that I have to keep myself from developing feelings for it.
The paddle makes a little dent in the bottom of the loaf, but this hasn't been a problem. In fact, I love this machine so much, it just makes it more endearing. I wish that everything in my kitchen worked this well with so little effort. It's easy to use, cleans up quickly - what's not to love?
if you're one person or a couple and you wind up not liking this machine, then bread machines are not for you.
