Customer Review: Worth the money, perfect bread, great machine

Really, first I was comparing to West Bend 41077 sicne it's got good reviews on Amazon. But there are some reviewers say about the yeast smell on the West Bend plus it doesn't have a timer. So I don't want to take a risk facing the bad smell. The price of these two are so much different but it's worth to buy Zoji because...
1. space saver (it's smaller than my rice cooker and space it's my most concern since I can't expand kitchen counter top)
2. make perfect bread (except the fist time I baked the bread didn't follow instructions. I mixed everything in the pan but the bread still came out ok)
3. great settings (Timer, Dough, Pasta, Jam) I use Timer all the time since I have a busy life so I set it up at night and have a fresh brad in the morning. This feature sells me. West Bend deosn't have all these features.
4. Small 1lb. loaf (We like smaller loaf but often baked fresh rather than one big but last a couple days.)
But!....If you consume a lot of bread a day and want a big 2lb. loaf this is not a machine for you.

I use it about 3 or 4 times a week and it's just wonderful. At first I bought a big book about making bread, but I sent it back because the booklet that comes with the machine is more than adequate. You can experiment with the recipes and get bread exactly to your liking. It's almost impossible to make bad bread with this. Every loaf that ever came out of this machine got eaten. I found that at higher altitudes (in the mountains) you will need to adjust the recipes because things change at different altitudes. It's been fun and especially if you live somewhere where there's no decent bakers or bread available.
The bread can be made in as short a time as 2 hours... or you can preset the timer to make a loaf using the longer program of 3 hours 20 mins... you set the amount of time you want the bread to finish in - so if it's 10pm and you want bread at 6am - set the timer for 8 hours and it'll be finished at 6am.
Don't even think of buying any other (cheaper) brand - this works 1000%

I have truly enjoyed this breadmaker and I am afraid my review is shamefully overdue! I have been using it since September 2009 and have had no trouble what so ever with it. I bought the book "Bread Machine Magic" at the same time and find that if I combine the white bread recipe from the included instruction book with the recipe in this book I get incredible bread. By that I mean increase the water just a touch (read a tablespoon) and the yeast to 1 1/2 teaspoons for the size loaf it makes. Unless you have 4 or more people eating bread, this loaf lasts 2 days before you must make more, so it is perfect for 2 to 4 people or for a meal with multiple people. The soft cycle (which I use for everything) is only 3 hours long and I love the cinnamon raisin bread! It has only a few ingredients and will have you reaching for the butter! LOL Try it! Homemade bread is so good and much better for you than the stuff at the store! Makes a nice 'lil loaf, very tasty using the regular basic white or French, nice crust. Just right size for the Pizza dough batch. I have noticed that the bread machine loaves get moldy after a few days, so the small size is ideal for a loner like myself. Zojirushi product seems well made, this unit should last many years.
UPDATE: 10/08..Still in love with this 'lil machine. Easy to experiment with additional ingredients that may or may not enhance final product.
MORE: The bread made with the included recipis is some of the best bread that I have ever eaten, the only exception being Ciabatta from a few local outlets. HINT: Spray the paddle with Pam type stuff, load the machine, the thing rarely sticks in the baked loaf....
MORE 4/09: Have been making "Sally Lunn" with the recipi from Germans bread book, very good taste and nice toast. Keeps well also.
MORE: 5/09: Every so often the paddle gets stuck in the loaf. I have found that a button hook works super to pull out the paddle.

I did thorough research before purchasing this breadmaker, as it's a little pricey. The small footprint on my countertop is great, as I don't have much room. I also like that I can configure settings in the evening to have fresh bread as we wake up in the morning. It's very easy to operate, and if you follow the recipe directions, you will never have a bad loaf of bread. It's easy to clean - after ejecting your loaf of bread, put it in the sink, fill it with water, and when it cools, give it a quick scrub with a nylon scrubbie pad. No soap. I have had my Zoji for about 6 weeks now, and for the two of us, the one pound loaf lasts us for two days. I make a new loaf every two days, and we have had all sorts of bread you cannot buy at the store! Plus, we make our own recipes, so we know exactly what is in our bread. We like organic wheat breads, so it's a bit more dense and filling than white bread. I will keep my Zoji forever, and if and when it breaks in about 20 years, I will buy another one.
