Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Zevro Dual Dry Food Dispenser, Black/ChromeCustomer Review: not flawless, but fun and useful Summary: 4 Stars
This depenser works with most cereals we have tried in it, except shredded wheat. It crumbles some cereals a bit, but hasn't pulvarised any yet (teaching everyone to always turn the handle to the right helps minimize the grinder effect) It also spits some cereals around so I have been training my three, six, and eight year olds to hold their left hand like a shield to direct any errant cereal into the bowl as they turn the handle with their right hand. They have all got the hang of it and love using it. We often had two or more cereal boxes open at once and the kids are much better at using the dispenser than they ever were at rolling the cereal packet closed to keep cereal fresh. If you have a crew to get ready by eight in the morning like I do, any little gizmo that brings fun and enthusiasm to the morning routine is worth it. I wouldn't say its worth much more than I spent on it, but it works fine, keeps the cereal fresh, and makes us happy.
Customer Review: Love it so much we bought 2 of these. Summary: 5 Stars
We loved this so much that we wound up buying a second one of these to accomodate 4 different cereals (we have 4 kids). And yes, this doesn't easily facilitate all cereals - but as a mom, you can tell you kids "you can have this, this or this. now what'll it be?" We've worked it out that way. No more Fruit Loops, but now I can buy the Trix stuff that comes in the bags -- which is much cheaper and the kids con't care. And it fits in this handy dispenser. Or the Cocoa Puffs version of the cheap stuff in the bags - again, it fits in the dispenser and my kids don't know the difference between the name brand and the generic brand. My only drawback is that I may be slightly neurotic and every time I take it apart to clean it, I'm afraid I'm going to break it. It is a little flimsy. You're probably better off keeping the same cereal in it for a while before cleaning it rather than putting the stress on the plastic.
Customer Review: Accident waiting to happen Summary: 2 Stars
This product seemed like a good idea. I mix my own cereal, and add lots of nuts and seeds. So it is a lot heavier than the fruit loops that are always shown in the pictures. The way that the holder fits into the base is not at all secure, and when full of heavy cereal, disaster is assured. Also, neither the top or the bottom cover is a really secure seal, so tipping the holder caused the top to fly off for me, and some interesting times for my dogs cleaning up the floor. I had a hard time taking the bottom seal off when my cereal bowl was in position. If you take it off first, then some cereal leaks out, causing the problem I was trying to solve - namely no cereal laying around my counter inviting unwelcome guests.
I tried this product for awhile, but threw it in the trash pretty fast. Went back to a big tupperware container Not as convenient as this could have been, but no awful spills either.
Customer Review: Good, but make sure you check for cracks Summary: 4 Stars
I love cereal and I thought this was a cooler way to store it than using Rubbermaid or Tupperware containers. I ordered it on a Friday and received it on a Monday, and that's with Super Saver Shipping. That alone was pretty great. The only issue I had is that one of the storage reservoirs came cracked in the front and the back. Not only did that look bad, but it also indicated to me that I might have a flimsy product. Amazon did a good job of replacing it and the new one that arrived came quickly.
I like the looks of it and it seems sturdy enough that I would not advise you to spend the extra $30 on the stainless steel version. The only reason I could see for purchasing it is if you absolutely must have stainless steel due to other accessories in your kitchen. The product has held up well so far and I am confident that I can recommend the Zevro dispenser.
Customer Review: What a mess! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this for my wife last Christmas and have regretted it ever since. It's a very clever device for it's intended purpose except it's really messy. We use it for storing Cheerios and Raisin Bran, and I've seen it pinch out a Cheerio that bounces off the bowl bottom and skitters two feet across the counter. The rubber plugs which snap onto the bottom openings to keep food fresh are a pain to replace and often don't get put back on correctly; they eventually fall off. And what's the purpose of the chrome grill underneath which fills with crumbs and is difficult to clean?
On the up side, it is kind of cool looking and would remain so if you didn't use it. Otherwise I would suggest getting almost any other kind of container for storing cereal. That's what drew me back here to Amazon. I'm looking for something else.
