Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of ZeroWater ZR-006 Replacement Filter, 4-PackCustomer Review: Going out of business Summary: 2 Stars
I guess Amazon is one of the few places you can get these now? I went to Target, where I usually buy these, and not one store in the entire county (of like 10 million people) had a Zero Water filter. Not one.
Coupled with the trend that this product has been taking in terms of decreasing quality, I wonder if this product will even continue to be available.
What I mean is, I have noticed a distinct degradation in the quality of their packaging and product over time. When I first bought my pitcher, the boxes were sealed with tape, the styrofoam filter packaging was sealed, and the filters themselves had a seal over the top, and a sticker on the side about the product. All of these were high quality, easily removed.
First, the tape around the styrofoam disappeared. I tried several different stores for these, still no tape. Then, the tape sealing the box itself was gone. So now, you have a product that isn't even sealed, but at least the filters themselves had something. Then, even that disappeared, along with the sticker on the side of each filter. There's nothing stopping someone from going in, opening the product, and tampering with it - you'd never even know. This is with every single order of these things in the past 6 months. Not to mention that 4 holes started appearing on the top of every filter - possibly because of customer complaints about the slowness of the filtration?
Also, the price has increased significantly since they first came out. You could get the 2 pack for $19.99, then it went up to $24.99, then $29.99 (at Target), but Amazon has them for $34.99. Why the huge price increase? This product hasn't even been around for more a couple of years, and none of the other filter/pitcher companies are increasing prices like this.
It's a decent product, a filter that needs replacing every 2 weeks or so (with one heavy water drinker in the house), but I'm worried about the company. If you haven't already bought a pitcher and thus have committed to the investment, I wouldn't bother picking up a Zero Water pitcher. I don't think the product will be available for much longer.
Everything about this product (and the pitcher) said "cheap" from the very start. The construction of the pitcher, the way the filters were sold, everything. I guess this trend is just them getting cheaper and cheaper on quality, but increasing price.
It's too bad I need a filter, because my city's water was voted in the top 10 worst water quality in the US. Ugh.
Description of ZeroWater ZR-006 Replacement Filter, 4-PackZero Water ZR-006 4 Pack Replacement Filter. Most conventional carbon filters only filter certain substances from your water. ZeroWater patented Ion Exchange System, with FIVE combined technologies, provides the only filtered water that meets FDA definition for purified bottled water. Stage 1 - Activated carbon infused micron cloth, Stage 2 - Multi-layer system using activaed carbon and oxidation reduction alloy, Stage 3 - Distributor that maximized contact, Stage 4 - Comprehensive ION EXCHANGE array, Stage 5 - Non-woven membrane to remove fine particles. Filter cartridge life is based on household water consumption and inlet water quality. How often the cartridge needs to be replaced is determined by how much water you put through the system and how hard the cartridge has to work to clean the water you put through it. Each filter has perforations or holes in the top. The holes exist to help speed up the filtering process and avoid potential cases of air lock in the water flow. Filtering your water through ZeroWater filters not only improves the taste of your tap water, it also prevents you from throwing plastic water bottles into the trash and clogging up landfills. Zero Technologies, LLC is proud to be the only major company that recycles gravity filter cartridges from U.S. customers.
