I was researching for the best booklight out there and it had to meet the following few criteria: 1) LED light source, 2) must be bright enough, 3) compatible w/ AA or AAA rechargeable batteries. I got a state-of-the-art charger that soft-charges & conditions NiMH batteries & I got the best ultra-low discharge NiMH batteries out there called the Eneloop by Sanyo. They work like a charm w/ the Max.5, totally environmental, too. I no longer need to turn on the room lights in order to read, this booklight is going to save me a lot of money on electricity.

This is a great light: a bright bulb that covers both pages easily. I previously tried the Zelco 11214 "itty bitty" Slim LED Booklight (great concept but doesn't provide sufficient coverage or brightness) and the Zelco "itty bitty" Book Light, LED Edition (not bright enough), and this is far better than either of them.

We're still on our first set of batteries, so I don't know how long the battery life is. The unit is bright and gives an even light over 2 pages of your average paperback. For a larger hardback, the edges of the pages are a tad dark, but it's not a problem.

It's a solid product that does what it advertises. No major bells and whistles, nothing spectacular, but very competent.

I have tried countless book lights. They are never bright enough, and don't light both pages of a book. This one is so good, I got one for my sister as a gift. If you also get the adapter, you don't waste money on batteries.
