Customer Review: better than nothing, at least until it breaks

I took this to SE Asia for a six-month trip. It's not easy to figure out how it works, which is unfortunate. But once it's in place it provides some comfort for those hotels where locks either don't exist or aren't trustworthy. After using it a handful of times, I couldn't get the red locking handle to close. I wiggled the metal bar and the red handle, trying not to apply much force. But I heard a crack from inside, and that was the end of that. Not recommended if you can find anything else.
Description of Zelco Lock Up Door Lock
The take-along door lock for ultimate security in hotel rooms, dorms and bedrooms. Lock up for the night and sleep without fear of intruders. It's simple to install (takes seconds), and, with its quickrelease lever, it comes off even quicker than it goes on both right and left hand doors. When installed, lockup cannot be dislodged, or tampered with, by anyone attempting to break into the room, and Lockup makes it infinitely more difficult for any hostile person to physically break down the door. Storage pouch (included) makes it an easy traveling companion. COlor: Black Dimensions: 177 x 50 x 19mmIdeal for locking a door from the inside, this take-along lock provides security and privacy because it cannot be dislodged or picked from the outside. It installs in seconds, releases instantly with its lever, and works equally well on doors that open to the left or the right. Installing is an easy four-step process: insert the end of the lock's steel bar into a door frame's "strike plate," close the door on the bar, slide the square portion's padded end against the door, and push the lever to lock. The lock measures 7-1/4 inches long and comes with a rugged travel pouch. --Fred Brack
