These containers are nice for homemade ice cream. I need two of them for a typical batch I make with the kitchen aid ice cream mixer bowl. Regarding how hard it is to unscrew the lids; if you let them sit out for 10 minutes before opening, they open right up. You will hear them crackle and pop as they come down in temperature. Since they are insulated and meant to be used to cart ice cream to parties you don't have to worry about melting in that period of time. Overall, they do the job well.
