Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of YH LH PRO SERIES FOOD SLICER HCustomer Review: Continental Slicer deserves an decent rating Summary: 4 Stars
I have used my slicer twice now. It has worked well both times so far and was used to slice down roast beef. Something you cannot seem to find in a store any more; well at least not the nice rare non-marinated kind that you use to find years ago. I'm not crazy about the plastic piece that is used to hold the meat in place as it is not very stable when slicing and could probably be engineered a bit better. My other annoyance is that the meat just falls of the back of the machine so you must reach around every once in a while and clear out the slices to make room for more. Would seem to be a better choice to have it drop in front of the machine rather than the rear. For the price of the machine is seems sturdy although it does have a bit of a smell when operating. The blade is attached by 3 phillip's screws which are easily removed in order to clean the blade. The machine is fairly easy to clean once the blade is removed and there is no threat of cutting oneself. It wipes down easily as it's coating is very smooth. The sliding mechanism lifts forward to clean out the gap between it and the machine. The other oddity I noted was in the blade speed, it moves very slowly although I have not had any issues slicing so far it seems odd that it turns so slowly unlike those we are all use to seeing at our local deli.
Customer Review: Works for me! Summary: 4 Stars
I'm pleased with my slicer. It works for me. I have had a slicer, slowly disintegrating, for the past 30 years, so I knew I would use it and wanted one that would last. The Continental is sturdily built, for the most part, and I expect to be able to repair age or damage myself. The movable fence that alligns the meat with the blade is held in place with a single metric phillips-head machine screw. It had gotten a bit chewed up during manufacture, so I replaced it from my convenient neighborhood hardware store. The blade is not serrated, so I will be able to sharpen it with a stone, when the day comes. Removal of significant parts for cleaning is simple, though I need a screwdriver, and in time, may need a pair of pliers. The parts clean easily enough, but I fear I will lose a couple of plastic washers eventually. Cleaning the bulk of the machine, after the removable parts have been cleaned, is awkward, but managable. The machine doesn't break down for storage, so it takes up a big chunk of my cupboard space, but by the same token it sets up fast when it's time to slice. All in all, I expect to be happy with my decision. Ask me again in fifteen years.
Customer Review: Home Use DEFINITELY! Summary: 4 Stars
Excellent product for the price.
Instruction booklet/manual not very clear or too helpful.
Nearly broke the blade retaining screw trying to remove the blade after the first use - that's why the 4-stars and not 5 - need to remove screw by turning it clockwise.
Slices very thin perfectly - did some cheddar cheese, smoked ham, and roast beef with no problems.
Used machine constantly for 30 minutes first time and no "burnouts" or burning smell from motor. Cleanup is easy - once you remember to unscrew clockwise!
Definitely for home use, not an industrial strength machine but well fabricated and built.
Customer Review: This is the worst slicer ever! Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this slicer in April 2009. It worked fine for 6 months and then the plastic gears that turn the blade completely broke. They are plastic. I then contacted the seller who in turn said I needed to contact the manufacturer. I have been in contact with the manufacturer since November 2009 and still have been able to receive a replacement slicer. They keep telling me to wait that the product is coming in on a container ship. This is a neverending battle. I will never buy another product from CEM Global again.
Customer Review: Excellent meat slicer for home Summary: 5 Stars
Friends made fun of my meat slicer joking that I'm starting a deli. But I've enjoyed all sorts of cheeses and ham just because it is so convenient to slice it with a meat slicer. Before it used to take me 30 minutes to slice meat thinly for dinner. Now, it takes just five minutes! Cleaning is easy. Instructions says don't use more than 10 minutes but I didn't try using it more than that. Who's laughing now? One friend wants to borrow my meat slicer. Gee!
