Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Wusthof 5558-1 Come-Apart Kitchen ShearsCustomer Review: Essential for kitchen prep Summary: 5 Stars
Wusthof's Pull Apart Shears would be my one "desert island" necessity: I use them for snipping fresh herbs such as mint, basil and rosemary, snipping macerated fruit into smaller pieces, cutting parchment paper to fit pans, making quick work of coarsely chopping pecans and walnuts, and chopping vegetables such as asparagus into uniform lengths. They slide apart for easy washing in the dishwasher, and mine have stayed super-sharp for over two years despite daily abuse. Made in Germany, these should last you for many years of kitchen prep.
Customer Review: Very sharp, wonderful product Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great addition to any kitchen. And with a name like Wusthof, it has to be good. The blades are really sharp. One thing though: be careful when you use it, because if you open it all the way (using both hands), the two pieces will separate (by design). This is for proper cleaning I assume, which I appreciate. However, I wasn't expecting it and I wasn't paying attention and dropped one of the pieces. If I did hurt myself, it would've been 100% my fault, but luckily I didn't. Anyway, great shears, purchase with confidence.
Customer Review: Sheerly Great Shears Summary: 5 Stars
These shears cut and clean up like a charm. They go together, and come apart with ease. When I'm done cutting up large green leaves for my health smoothies I just separate the blades and place in dishwasher, to be rinsed when I have a big enough load. I don't, however, run through a full machine wash and dry, due to the possible damage to the handles from my machine's high drying temperature. These are the best kitchen shears I've ever had, and I've had some quite expensive ones, that just don't hold a soy candle to these.
Customer Review: Wusthof 5558-1 Come-Apart Kitchen Shears Summary: 3 Stars
Really sharp shears . . . I mean really sharp. You need to be careful when you take them apart and when you wash them. They are perfect for cutting carne asada meat and for trimming the fat off of chicken. I love the ability to clean the shears are our old ones couldn't come apart and started rusting at the connection.
I updated my review as the connection between the scissors are rusting and have no idea why that would happen if these are stainless steel . . . disappointed and am contacting the seller.
Customer Review: Powerful and hygenic Summary: 5 Stars
I always get frustrated when I can't find these shears around the house because they are unquestionably more powerful than any of the others I have. They are fantastic for those horrible injury-inducing clamshell hard plastic packages everything seems to come in these days.
Most importantly though, I no longer have to worry about being able to properly clean scissors after opening a package that has raw meat in it. Really, every kitchen should have scissors that come apart for this feature alone.
