Potential buyers of the Wusthof Come-Apart Kitchen Shears,
I bought these shears to replace my very old Chicago Cutlery ones that I have had for over 10 years. I was unimpressed by everything except the sharpness. The handles are not ergonomic at all and actually hurt after a while, which I can deal with, b/c I don't use these for more than a minute or so each time I use them. However the most disapointing thing about these shears is that they started to rust at the pivot point where they connect after only 2 months. These shears don't even stand a chance at lasting one quarter as long as my Chicago Cutlery ones, which I thought were decent but nontheless. I will be looking at different brands to replace these soon.

I love these kitchen shears -- so much so that I bought a second pair. These match the rest of my cutlery and fit perfectly in the knife block but more importantly I just can't do without them in the kitchen. I use them for cutting open bags of salad, fruit, frozen foods, etc. They are terrific for cutting up or trimming chicken, other meats, vegetables, etc. The handles are great for opening jars too. They separate easily and go through the dishwasher with no problems at all. Unlike some take apart scissors these are easy to reassemble but don't fall apart when you are using them. There is no end to the number of things I use them for in the kitchen. They are an absolute must have. That's why I got a second pair -- if one is in the dishwasher, I still have one to use.Customer Review: Works great, easy to clean

Wusthof's reputation for quality knives, coupled with easy cleaning, sold me on this kitchen shears. Contrary to the description, no plastic cap or screw removal is involved... over the normal cutting range of motion, these function just like any other quality kitchen shears... but thanks to some very nice machining of the joint, they come apart if the blades are opened all the way to 90 degrees.
The bevel machined into the joint seems to clamp the blades together as the shears are reassembled, ensuring that the blades fit closely and cut well. The handle is comfortable and symmetrical, so it should fit left or right hand equally well.
Perhaps shears aren't quite so glamorous as forged knives, but this is a well thought-out product and well worth the price.

I have arthritis in my hands and cutting through chickens bones was completely impossible for me. Tried soooo many kitchen shears supposedly designed to do this daunting job. Perhaps so, but those others required hand strength which those of us with arthritis simply do not possess. Then I got this. WOW! It's such a snap to cut through chicken bones!
The fact they come apart easily for thorough cleaning is a major plus. (You want to get anything that comes in contact with chicken really, really clean to avoid contamination with deadly salmonella).
And they have stayed sharp for us for many moons now, without sharpening.
Buy this! Even if you aren't incapacitated. You will not regret it!

These are really a great set of kitchen shears. I've had other shears and they just weren't very sharp or well-made. Once I got these, those others got tossed in the trash! These are strong and sharp enough to cut up a chicken, and still can handle cutting plastic bags and other more delicate tasks. Everything from cutting flowers to cutting paper and cardboard, these really are versatile. And the bottlecap opener on the handles is a nice plus! The shears come apart easily but not so easily that they come apart during (as some others I've tried do). Highly recommended.
UPDATE: 2 years later and these are going strong! Haven't had to sharpen them and they still can handle cutting up a chicken no problem. Every kitchen needs a set.
