Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Wüsthof 2-Stage Knife SharpenerCustomer Review: Wüsthof Knife Sharpener taught me what sharp really means Summary: 5 Stars
For years I've had an old Oster can opener with an electric knife sharpener. I actually thought that thing did a good job of sharpening my knives, it really ground them up in the process. There was no second stage where it would set the final correct angle on the blade and give a razor sharp knife. Well, enter the Wusthof manual knife sharpener, I was blown away that this little thing could do to my knives so quickly, what years of my old can opener sharpener never did. Once you sharpen your dull knife using the coarse side, you can keep it razor sharp with a few strokes thru the fine side and save sharpening or grinding your knifes away. I'm totally impressed with this item.
Customer Review: Exceptional Sharpener Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this sharpener based on a recommendation I saw in HandyMan magazine. Since my knives were about a dull as they possibly could be, I thought I would give it a try. The sharpener is extremely easy to use. There is no process where the perfect angle needs to be aligned or it has to be applied with a certain amount of pressure. You literally put the knife in the sharpener and pull it through the sharpener a couple of times and you are done. The knives come out with extremely sharp blades. I used this on everything from picket knives to cleavers. My only regret is I didn't buy this sharpener sooner. This is one device that works even better than I expected.
Customer Review: Good Sharpener Summary: 4 Stars
As one who carries a pocket knife I can shave with, I wanted an easier (quicker) way to put a good edge on my kitchen knives. I find this unit works very well, hold near the edge of the counter, don't push down too hard, lift the hangle as you pull through so the tip gets sharpened also. I too had the "spinning" ceramic rods seen in other reviews, I just put a couple drops of Super Glue at the bottom of each rod, cured that problem. Wish frame was a little stiffer, can chatter on large butcher knives which gives an unwanted serration along the edge.
If you want razor sharp literally-get the Spyderco 2 triangular rod unit. More work-shaving capable edge.
Customer Review: Great little gadget Summary: 5 Stars
They say the most dangerous tool in a kitchen is a dull knife. Well, this sharpener by the company that's famous for sharp knives, Wusthof, solves the problem for you with a few easy strokes. Never having mastered the art of using a sharpening steel no longer bothers me...this device is easy to use and very effective. The first stage, provided by two high carbon steel blades, sets the bevel. The second stage, two ceramic rods, hones the bevel perfectly and easily. The handle and legs of the device holds it firmly to the counter top during the process. I highly recommend it to anyone who can't seem to get a keen edge with a sharpening steel.
Customer Review: Wusthof 2 stage knife sharpener Summary: 5 Stars
I was skeptical when I opened the packaage and saw how light weight it felt. I thought it felt cheap and probably wouldn't work at all. I tried it and was VERY pleasantly surprised! I have some high end knives and now have the original edge on them because of this sharpener! I love it! 100% satisfied. The two step process involves running the blade through a steel coarse slot to remove burrs and other flaws, then running the blade through the fine slot of ceramic rasps to fine tune the blade. Great product.Wüsthof 2-Stage Knife Sharpener
