Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Wüsthof 2-Stage Knife SharpenerCustomer Review: Easy and even better, it works! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had a terrible time getting knives sharpened - and bought many 'gadgets', none of which worked. While the documentation is poor (to none) on this, it works REALLY well (ya know, as soon as you figure it out). The handle is a bit large for my hands, but still comfortable and took me only a couple minutes to sharpen a knife to cut through everything with ease (my knives feel new again!).
As my beloved knives are Wusthof, I decided to take a chance on this sharpener and I'm happy I did, but of course use it on all my knives (and kitchen shears).
I'm giving it 5 stars for ease of use and the fact that it works so well, but if there were an option it'd be 4.5 due to lack of documentation/instructions.
Customer Review: Put My Expensive Wusthof Knives into this Cheap Toy? Summary: 5 Stars
I've had a $600+ set of Wusthof Classic knives for five years and had been using the sharpening steel that came with the set. I had not noticed any reduction in sharpness and would never have considered getting this sharpener if it had not come as a free bonus offer along with a set of Wusthof cheese knives I bought recently. Even then; I had not planned to use it, but decided to give it a try since it was made by Wusthof and there was no warning on it. To my surprise the paring knife that I tried first came out considerably sharper after a few easy passes through the "fine" side. I tried it on the other knives with similar results and will never go back to the sharpening steel. The cheap toy turned out to be a valuable tool!
Customer Review: Love this gadget! Summary: 5 Stars
Maybe the best $20 I've ever spent. If you're like me and your knives are ancient and you're not getting anywhere with the sharpening steel, BUY THIS. You will feel a LOT less sorry for yourself about not having the $$ for new knives. And for godsake do NOT throw out those tarnished old scissors you bought back when we actually manufactured things like scissors in the good old US of A. I've had the nastiest looking pair of scissors imaginable for as long as I can remember, we're talking decades, but they're quality. A few passes through the scissors sharpener in this gizmo and they're performing like new. Thank you, Wüsthof, for providing us with a way to AVOID buying your knives :). Very classy.
Customer Review: great, simple product Summary: 4 Stars
you wanna be a hotshot, get a whetstone and go to culinary academy. BUT, if you want a simple, durable, inexpensive, very effective knife sharpener, bingo! i advise against some 20 lb., overly complex, electric thigamajig. REMEMBER...with many sharpeners, manual, electric, whatever, including this one, they have a coarse slot and a fine slot. use coarse only when your knives are REALLY dull; it removes a lot of metal and restores the edge, but overuse will result in your hatori santuko or sabatier becoming an icepick. use the fine slot mostly. and sharpening steels look and sound cool, but they don't sharpen...they remove tiny imperfections and burrs as a final step. love this product.
Customer Review: Works great on Pampered Chef knives Summary: 5 Stars
I have three knives from Pampered Chef...they have their own cases with 'built-in' sharpeners. They are terrible knives...at least mine are. When I used the sharpener in their cases the edges of the knives became chipped and dull. I was going to toss them out and just invest in a good set of knives (even though these knives were not cheap). I thought I'd purchase a sharpener as a last ditch effort and WOW - this one really works on my cruddy knives. They aren't perfect, but they are 100better than they were...I can even cut a tomato without crushing it. I'm thinking that if I keep using this sharpener, eventually the chips in my knives will be 'sharpened' away. Great purchase!
