I bought this while starting to learn to do fondant at home myself. My good old wood rolling pin wasn't cutting it. I got the rings and the mat to use with it. I agree with other reviewers, NOT having handles is killer. I could not believe how much more strength it takes to use this than when I have handles. Plus, the consistency of the fondant before it's thin or warmed, makes it even more challenging. I definitely warmed my fondant in the microwave after trying to roll it out with this when the fondant was room temperature.
The rolling pin itself works well, was truly non-stick, and cleaned up easy, although I think I washed it 10 times because of it's non-stick properties it perpetually felt "greasy" to me. Using the rings with it helped me to get the proper depth for my fondant, I NEVER would have been able to accurately gauge the right depth.
I decided to store the rings "on" the rolling pin, since I know I will lose them if I don't. I've used it four or five times always for fondant. I may try it on a pie crust or something just to see how it works, but it is so much more difficult than my old fashioned wood roller with handles, it would have to be crazy good for me to substitute it for other things.
