Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Wilton 2105-5038 Giant Cupcake Pan

Customer Review: CROWD PLEASER
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the pan a couple days ago in store. I have an event this weekend that I thought it would be perfect for. After reading everyone's reviews and doing extensive research on how to bake with this pan, I attempted to do a test run last night.I used bakers joy to coat both sides of the pan I used two boxes of Pillsbury funfetti cake mix. One for each side. I had the oven at 375, placed the pan with the top portion towards the front of the oven. It baked in 60 minutes exactly The outside of the cake, the part you have to cut anyway was kind of crunchy, but not burnt (almost like a cookie) and the inside of both parts remained moist. The cake came out of the pan effortlessly, be careful the cake is kind of heavy. I did not ice it because it was just a test run. Baking it was so easy I could have done it without the test run. I am excited to use it for my event this weekend!

Customer Review: So much fun!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is such a fun and easy cake to make! I followed the previous reviewers who recommended filling both sides of the pan 2/3 full and baking the bottom first for 15 minutes, then adding the top and baking both for another 30 minutes. I used Wilton Cake Release (you HAVE to use this for any shaped pan, IMO) and both pieces slid out after 15 minutes of cooling. Not a crumb in the pan. I didn't decorate the bottom, but can definitely see that you would want to do this first before assembling the top. Used the Wilton 1M tip to pip giant rosettes and stars on the top. Absolutely beautiful and unbelievably easy. I used two boxes of mix and used the leftover batter to make regular cupcakes to surround the giant one with. Wish I'd had an occasion to show it off for, but just made it on a whim to see how it worked. Definitely recommend for something fun, easy and different!

Customer Review: Works well with additional instructions
Summary: 4 Stars

I made this cake a couple of years ago and failed miserably. The cake did not come out of the pan and it was quite frustrating. I decided to try it again yesterday for my daughters first birthday. I looked over reviews on amazon and found some great suggestions for how to get the perfect cake. Thanks to all who posted...the cake turned out beautiful. Here is what I did:

1. Cooked at 325
2. I used two cake boxes.
3. Used Pam with flour to grease the bottom mold. Filled with batter and left 1 inch from the top.
4. Baked for 16 minutes
5. Removed from oven, greased the top bold and filled with batter up to the swirl line on the top of the mold.
6. Baked for 60 minutes (it was a bit crispy on the edge of the bottom mold but tasted great).
7. I had enough batter left over to make an additional 15 cupcakes.

Customer Review: A huge hit with the kids
Summary: 4 Stars

I used this to make a giant cupcake for my daughter and she loved it. All of the kids at the her birthday party were excited to see the giant cupcake. The cake released well from the mold and it cooked perfectly. The only thing I did not like about it was that it did not come with instructions. Luckily I had checked out the reviews and followed other people's advise on how to use it. I filled the larger side first and baked for 15 minutes and then took it out of the oven to add the mixing on the other side of the mold. I then continued to bake it for another 40 minutes at 325 degrees. The cake came out perfectly. It was not burnt. Make sure you wait for the cake to cool down before you try to release it from the mold. And make sure your cake is completely cool before you put the icing on it, otherwise the icing will start to slide down (which is not pretty).

Customer Review: Great product but needs better directions
Summary: 4 Stars

I made this cake for my son's 1st birthday and it was a hit! It makes an adorable giant cupcake if you can get it to the point of decorating. The directions were WAY OFF. My trial run cake was just short of a disaster. The other reviews are right- fill the bottom and bake for 15 minutes, then add batter to the top half. It still took FOREVER- almost 70 minutes. The company's directions gave 60-70 minute baking time for their recipe (a pound cake, which is denser and generally bakes longer) but says if using boxed cake mix to follow it's baking instructions. Obviously there are no bake times listd for a Giant Cupcake pan so... since I imagine the majority of people using the pan will use boxed mix, an average baking time for this product is much needed. More detailed instructions all around would have given the pan 5 stars; it's very good quality.
