Customer Review: Spice Grinder, not a mortal and pestle

For crushing and grinding dried spices this is perfect. Unlike power grinders that reduce cloves, peppercorns, all spice berries, etc. to powder this intelligently designed tool allows complete control over the resultant spice mixture. And, unlike the traditional mortar and pestle you're not constantly fighting to keep the ingredients in the "bowl" and not all over your counter/floor. However, it doesn't work as well as a traditional mortar for mashing a Pistou or making a small batch of pesto. So if you're looking for a spice grinder, this is a very good one, but falls short at double duty. I wish they made a larger version (maybe 6 inches in diameter) supplied with both the mated crushing tool (lid) and a traditional pestle.
