Customer Review: Flawed by No Timer

For anyone wanting to use this like the old "crock pot" many of us grew up with you will want to look elsewhere for a model with a timer.
According to Cook's Illustrated: "A programmable timer was deemed a real asset, especially because all the machines with timers automatically switch to a warming mode when the timed cooking is done. This means that even if you're late coming home from work, your dinner won't be overcooked (or cold). The models without timers were downgraded."
Unfortunately, this model doesn't have a timer, so while you can probably leave some things cooking while you go to work, I think this would cause a lot of trial and error issues (and needless anxiety).
In this price range Cooks Illustrated recommended the HAMILTON BEACH Programmable Slow Cooker with Temperature Probe, but for those with more to spend the highest recommended model was the ALL-CLAD Stainless Steel Slow Cooker with Ceramic Insert.
If it weren't for the lack of a timer I would be happy to give this slow cooker a top rating.

With a capacity of 6 quarts, this slow cooker makes chili or soup for up to eight people and its oval shape can accommodate a large 3- to 4-pound roast--enough to feed guests or have leftovers for another night. The crockery cooker has a light that illuminates during operation and has two cooking settings, low and high, plus a keep warm option that maintains the serving temperature. An included manual helps you convert regular recipes to the proper cooking time on the slow cooker.The exterior of this crockery slow cooker is brushed stainless steel with stay-cool plastic handles so you can move it safely. The stoneware crock liner is removable and makes an attractive serving dish that you can carry to the table. A see-through glass lid tops off the pot and seals in all the delicious flavors of your recipe. Both the crock liner and lid are dishwasher-safe.
