Customer Review: don't buy a rival type-low, med., high setting cooker

Having used and worn out a West Bend slow cooker that I received 30 years ago, I shopped locally for a new one, and, being unable to find one, bought a Rival 3 heat setting crock. Is is a crock, as you cannot slow cook at normal low heat levels, it cooks to hot and fast. Finally, located the cooker I want here, with the variable heat setting, and I'm back in business. Local stores are loaded with worthless cookers. If you really want to "slow cook", buy one of these West Bend cookers, there is nothing else like it that I've been able to find.Customer Review: Now I am acookin'!

My brother came to visit and brought his West Bend Slow Cooker. That tells you my reputation for cooking. After he made a few meals for us, I was sold and knew that I could do this kind of cooking.I ordered my own West Bend Slow Cooker and have been slow cooking up a storm ever since. It is so easy to "make it and forget it" until meal time. I have also been volunteering to make "dishes to pass", which eluded me until now. Clean-up is a breeze with this Slow Cooker. I love it. I cannot say enough good things about this slow-cooker! I used the 4-qt. size for many years, until the coating was gone and the lid wouldn't fit anymore. I actually used foil as a replacement lid for a long time! I am somewhat disappointed with the small size, but I love this cooker so much!! My favorite feature is the variable settings. You can use this cooker as a slow pot, or (and this is how I usually use it) as a roasting pan. My roasts and pork chops are to die for when I use this cooker, and clean-up is so simple!Customer Review: Almost perfect!

This slow cooker is very versatile. I sautee my onions and peppers and what have you on my gas stove top, and then move the unit to the base and add the rest of my ingredients. I have had the cooker about six months and am very happy with it overall. My only complaint is that the plastic handle on the glass lid is starting to loosen. Also, the lid is rimmed with metal, which has bent just a bit, and now I have to push down just right to get the lid to seal perfectly. I purchased a West Bend Slow Cooker 20 years ago after observing how much my mother enjoyed using her's. I have not been disappointed. The feature I most appreciate is the ability to brown meat in the cooker on the stove top and make a gravy, then transfer the same pot to the base to slow cook. Many a Sunday dinner in our home has been prepared using this method. My daughter just purchased one today because she knew how much I used mine. It is a great applicance I would not want to be without!
