Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of West Bend 84755 5-Quart Oblong Slow Cooker, White

Customer Review: Older is better
Summary: 5 Stars

I have three West Bend slow cookers, two that I got at garage sales. What I like about the old ones is that the lid is glass (not plastic) and flat and has no knob on it. You can use the lid by itself as oven cookware. It's great for making hot dips for parties. You can put it on the base by itself to keep the dip warm, and the low sides make it easy for people to dip in. It's also good for making entrees or side dishes for a small family (great for the three of us!). I'm sure these newer ones are just as good a product, but I would say go on ebay and get the older version.

Customer Review: Too hot to touch
Summary: 4 Stars

My wifes slow cooking has dramatically improved with this cooker. I do not understand why the food is moist and tender. When it was always dry and tough when she used her old crock pot. I know that the cooker is the only thing which has changed. I cannot give 5 stars because the cooker has no off position on the switch. The other night we found the pot still hot 3 hours after I thought I had turned it off. In reality I had just turned it to the lowest possible setting. With an empty pot, this is still too hot to touch. The only way to turn it off is to unplug.

Customer Review: Pretty dang good, well worth the money
Summary: 5 Stars

I looked at all kinds of slow cookers and crock pots before making my selection. I had a crock pot that was stone and the handle broke off at a potluck, so although I liked the stone, I didn't want another one that was so fragile. I looked at a lot of cookers that had fancy designs, name brands (Tobasco, etc.) and lots of bells and whistles, but what I liked about this one was the simplicity. The flat base gently supports the top, which can also go in the oven or on the stove. Both parts clean up easily and the bottom portion also doubles as a griddle. Overall, A++!

Customer Review: Indispensable
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using the West Bend Slow Cooker for 30+ years, despite the fact that they are so hard to find...the stores no longer carry them. If I had to name 5 items in my kitchen that I couldn't live without, this would be number 1. Besides using it to make pot roast, spare ribs, and more, I regulary use it to bake potatoes [clean and puncture potatoes, add about half cup of water and turn on high. After one and a half hours, check and turn down heat accordingly]I actually keep two of these in my kitchen at all times because one is almost always being used.

Customer Review: West Bend oblong Slow Cooker Review
Summary: 3 Stars

I really like this product because of the size and shape. It is great if you have a small countertop. We use it in our RV. The nonstick surface is great also/easy cleanup. The only downside is the base that doubles as a little grill. It really does not heat up as well as I thought it would itself. I tried to make pancakes on it and it never really got hot enough to cook them right. The base however does heat up enough when using the top slow cooker on it. Very strange. Overall I do really like it as a slow cooker, but not as a separate griddle.
