Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of West Bend 77203 Electric Can Opener, MetallicCustomer Review: second purchase same product Summary: 5 Stars
Cook's Illustrated recommendation, and it's great. Bought one for my grandmother who's hand's aren't what they used to be, and after she was given a short lesson (her eyes aren't great either) on using it, she said it's a breeze and wishes she had one years earlier. Now my mom who takes care of my grandmother wants one, so this one will be hers. I don't open many cans now, mostly jars, but if I end up that route, this will be the one. if only they made an under cabinet mount one that works this well....
Customer Review: Very sexy Summary: 4 Stars
This is a gorgeous appliance but that's the best part of it.
After a year of using this. I have to say I absolutely hate it. It's hard to pierce the can, the magnet holds so tightly onto the lid. I have to hold the piercing handle with one hand and remove the lid with the other to avoid being cut.
I'm going back to my beloved Black & Decker Under-the-Counter canopener.
Please ignore the 4 star review, that was a mistake. I give it 1 star for looks alone.
Customer Review: Can open Summary: 5 Stars
This canopener works effortlessly on every size can I've tried, from 3# coffee cans to those tiny little things with tomato sauce. It has a tendency to rip the paper labels and leave bits inside the can which have to be picked out, but, after trying several brands and models of electric can openers, I'm willing to put up with this flaw in return for reliabilty and the ability to work for two weeks in a row without breaking. It's worth the price. And damned good looking, too.
Customer Review: seems pretty good so far Summary: 4 Stars
Had it for a few weeks opens can with alacrity and precision and works over most dented areas. The one heavy dented can i tried took a few passes to work and the can popped off so if workign with heavy dents you need to keep a hand under the item.
Looks great on the counter top.
On the negative side the magnet that is supposed to catch the lids is about 1/2 shorter than needed (and not adjustable) so about half the lids dont really stick.
Customer Review: Westbend Can Opener Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this particular can opener due to the reviews that have been posted online. So far, I am very happy with the purchase. The can opened is easily used - placement of the can is good, the sound is quiet, balance of the can opener is good, no accidental spilling yet. I have only been using it for a couple of weeks, so I can't say how long it may last, however, I am in great agreement with all the previous reviews and will greatly recommend this can opener.
