I cannot tell you how many electric con openers I have purchased over the years. The last straw was a couple months ago while attempting to open large cans of tomato sauce to make a large batch of homemade sauce. The opener I had never worked unless I got it lined up "just right", which for me was frustrating. Needless to say, I ended up using a hand held opener which really hurt my hand. I threw it away after that, and went on a search for a good electric can opener. To be honest, I read a lot of reviews and thought I would buy the West Bend. I am totally happy with my opener and would recommend this to anyone. Thanks to Amazon I finally have an opener that works like magic!Customer Review: Great! I've read the reviews prior to ordering this item, so I was concerned with it's "paper jamming" from the start. I believe that the wrapping from the can itself was getting caught up in the blade and not performing. I have to say that this has not been an issue for me and I have been using this daily for the last 10 months since it arrived.
It is definitely a quality piece, well weighted/balanced and performs well every time. Also, the brushed metallic steel shows little dirt or smudges and will easily wipe clean.
Fairly quiet with a sleek look. This unit is by far one of the most attractive on-the-counter accessories out there.

My old can opener was always hard to use - getting the can into the slot so the opener would work usually took longer than opening the can manually. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy the West Bend worked. No hassle, just pop the can in, hit the button, and voila, opened can! My wife was also impressed, as we had become accustomed to fiddling with the old one, and just expected the new one to be the same. What a positive change - a kitchen can opener that actually lives up to that claim. I would highly recommend this one to anyone who wants a hassle-free, easy to use can opener. I did some research online to see what the best can opener out there was. The West Bend 77203 had the best ratings. I asked my husband to get it for me for Christmas, which he did. It's great! I cook a lot and was tired of struggling with the hand can openers. The West Bend is a cinch. My kids actually want to help open the cans now! The price on Amazon.com is the best I found anywhere. For some reason, my husband could not find it in stores here in Orlando. It was not at Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. There were other places to order it by mail, but they were higher than Amazon. This is a very reliable and easy-to-use can opener at a reasonable price. It hugs cans nicely with a strong grip and makes slick work of the cutting. Down sides are that it is lightweight and doesn't feel very anchored on the counter, and my husband doesn't care for the shape of the press-down lever. If you are used to pressing down with your hand on a lever with a flat surface, it may seem a little uncomfortable. However, if you pinch it between your thumb and pointer finger and pull down, it is a perfect fit. In fact, it seems ergonomically designed to fit this way. All in all, I am very happy with it.
