Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of West Bend 77203 Electric Can Opener, MetallicCustomer Review: Love It! Summary: 5 Stars
My old can opener kept falling apart so I decided it was time to invest in a new one. I've always purchased cheap ones, thinking one can opener was pretty much like another, but this time I thought I'd spring for something with a little more quality. After reading a lot of Amazon's customer reviews, I opted for this one.
I'm not disappointed! I like the snazzy look of it, the height that allows for large cans, and the ease of using it. It is nicely weighted to prevent larger, heavier cans from tipping it over. It runs quietly and smoothly, stopping automatically when the can is open. The built in cord storage is a very nice touch that eliminates one of my pet peeves. I haven't used the knife sharpener or bottle opener, but I think those are both nice features, as well.
I definitely recommend this product!
Customer Review: Disappointing... Summary: 2 Stars
After reading rave reviews about this (how can anyone get this excited about a can opener?) I bought it. After a year and a half, the blade is dull, it rips the paper off the outside of the can which wads up and lands on the cupboard, and the lid inevitably falls into the can most of the time, so I always have to dust off the lid before opening so dust doesn't fall inside the can. This type of can opener (top-cutting) leaves very sharp edges and the lid cannot be replaced on the can without falling in nor can it open pull-top lids. I won't ever buy this kind again. I had a side-cutting can opener before this (creating a smooth, non-sharp, replaceable lid), which isn't made anymore. I just purchased a hand-held smooth-edge can opener (Fissler) and will put this one in the garbage dump where it belongs.
Customer Review: Works Great and Attractive Too! Summary: 4 Stars
For a few years ago I had stopped purchasing electric can openers as I could never find one that work faithfully and/or just didn't have a nice appearance on the counter. After my boyfriend and I moved in together he insisted on an electric. So I did some research, read reviews, and gave this one a try. As I cook a good amount of Italian food, I use a lot of the large 28 oz. - 32 oz. cans of tomatoes. To my surprise not only did this can opener open these cans with ease, the magnet actually held the top of the cut lid, and held the can as well..look ma, no hands & no mess! So you don't have to stand there holding the can while it cuts and doesn't splatter the contents when it's done. I've had it 6 months now with no problems. It's easy to clean and it actually looks quite nice on the counter.
Customer Review: A reliable, easy to use can opener Summary: 5 Stars
let's face it, a can opener isn't a big purchase, but to get the wrong one means lots of frustration when trying to get the knife in the can and get it to turn. We did a great deal of researching before we made this purchase. We've been thru several can openers over the years, and the main problem we have had is getting the blade to puncture the can and then the little wheel to turn it thru the cycle.
This west bend opener has been a delight. The blade easily connects and the pulling wheel powers thru the cycle effortlessly, leaving the can lid cut, but attached to the little magnet.
The whole mechanism pops out for very easy cleaning. Pretty nifty.
So... if you are looking for a non-frustrating can opener, this is a good one!
Customer Review: Finally, one that works! Summary: 5 Stars
All other electric can openers either broke or just didn't work well. They were hard to get the can under the blade, and sometimes didn't cut all the way around. This one is so much different! First, it operates very quietly. Cans of any size are position easily under the blade....the first time I try! Once I position the can and press the lever, I can continue cooking while the opener does the work. It opens the can and stops when it is fully opened. Normally, with other openers, when the can is opened it splashes out, making a mess, as the opener jerks to a stop. Not with this one. It operates very smoothly. I would definitely recommend this product. Is it sad that I am excited to have finally found a great can opener?
