Customer Review: Finally a great electric can opener!

This is a terrific electric can opener with the power to get the job done, at a great price. Over the past couple of years, my wife tried four others from various local stores. These less expensive models looked nice but were so light they would fall over from the weight of a can, and they frequently broke down. I searched Amazon for some alternative models, and decided the reviews for this one impressed me most for residential use. This can opener was offered in a choice of colors, so my wife picked metallic to match her various other kitchen appliances. When it arrived, we were immediately impressed by the fact that it stayed where we put it, and it didn't complain about opening cans. An added plus is the bottle opener and knife sharpener on the back. I tend to favor heavy duty appliances that can go the distance, and this one appears to be a top notch choice for home kitchen electic can openers. Good job West Bend! (P.S. We got a second one for my cousin who has arthritis in her hands and can't use a manual can opener. She can use this and loves it!)

Product As Advertised! Agree with 5 Star Reviews! Nothing really to add that has not already been said, but let me try! Waiting for one thing! That one thing being if the opener will hold a #10 can.
I'm sure it will open the large can, and is plenty tall enough. Just want to see if I can put a #10 can in machine and walk away to do other things.
This usually occurs in Nov. and Dec. when two friends come over and we do some serious baking for three days in a row. Also open a few #10 cans of vegtables and fruit for my large family summer get together.
Of course, this can opener never advertised itself as being an industrial product. However, I would not call 10 to 15 big cans a year a commercial workload. So I guess it would come down to the weight of the can versus the strength of the magnet and cutting aparatus.
But that would put the icing on the cake if the opener works in this way.

I followed all the swell recommendations for this can opener. I received it sometime in December and used it as necessary, which means not every day. Well, today, April 27, as I was sharpening some paring knives, the can opener died. Burnt to a crisp. I am very disappointed, and I would recommend great care when using the knife-sharpening feature. Of course the limited 1-year warranty is so limited that I am not about to fool around wasting time with returns, repairs, especially at my own expense. The can opener is going straight to the trash can. I am so very disappointed with this product. If you plan to sharpen knives with it, (and I am not even sure WHY a bottle opener feature is necessary)
, use care. Better yet, find something better, perhaps made in the USA, as this piece of junk was made in China. What was I thinking?

I previously had an Oster electric can opener. And after about having it for about 12 years, the opener would not move the can around the blade to open it. I purchased a cheap $[...] electric can opener and it worked liked it was 12 years old. The blade was dull and it was a struggle opening a can. I therefore returned the $[...] opener and decided to go online to make my purchase.
I purchased a Westbend because of the high rated reviews. So far I am very pleased with it.
It has a sleek design, is quieter than the Oster that I owned previously, and no splattering once the can is opened. It also opens the can faster and without jagged edges. There is no struggle trying to get the can to fit under the blade in order for the can opener to start opening. You just stick it under the blade and it will do the rest. I also think it is reasonably priced.

I have owned this can opener now for several months and it is BY FAR the BEST can opener I have ever owned. I have had probably 10 electric openers in my lifetime, but this is just wonderful. It is smooth, super easy to attach the can, quiet, and does NOT splatter the contents of the can all over the opener when it's done cutting like all the others have!!! (especially tuna or red beet juice..yikes!) The detachable parts make it sanitary too, you can put it in the dishwasher! I can't say enough about this opener....you will NOT be disappointed!!
*UPDATE: It's 2 years old now and still perfect!! Looks brand new and still works like a charm!!
