Description of Waterford Crystal Lismore 6-Inch Square VaseThe Waterford Crystal Lismore Pattern was introduced in 1950. The pattern's simplicity of style remains fresh and balanced 50 years after its introduction. Beloved by three generations of Waterford collectors, Lismore is, indeed, a classic! This diminutive crystal vase, the smallest of a trio of vases, is part of Waterford's Lismore series. It's a perfect way to show off sweet peas, anemones, ranunculus, and other short-stemmed flowers. Waterford has been making renowned crystal pieces for more than 200 years and has named many of its patterns after towns in Waterford and other neighboring counties. The Lismore design features repeating leaf motifs for a lively, natural look. A 16-rayed star is cut into the underside of the vase; the star is refracted through the thick base and visible at an angle from above. Between the square base and mouth, the sides bow gently outward, giving an impression of the natural curves in foliage. A field of X-shaped wedge cuts nestles at the bottom of each of the four sides, each supporting elongated vertical oval leaf cuts. The top third of the vase is all clear curves up to the smoothly polished square lip. In addition to the variously-sized matching vases, other display pieces in the Lismore series include picture frames, clocks, and candlesticks. To preserve its clarity, wash the vase with mild liquid soap and warm (not hot) water; do not wash in dishwasher as this may permanently etch surface of crystal. Rinse with warm water and polish with a lint-free cloth. Interior of vase should be cleaned by filling half-full with warm water, two tablespoons white vinegar, and 1/4 cup uncooked rice; swirl rice around for a few minutes to remove residue from inside of vase or decanter. Do not store upside down on its rim or stand on its rim on a draining board. Crystal can focus sunlight into a concentrated beam that could potentially scorch rugs or furniture, so do not store or display in direct sunlight. The vase measures 6 inches tall and 2-1/2 inches wide at its widest point. --Garland Withers
