Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Waring WMK300A Pro Professional Stainless-Steel Belgian Waffle Maker

Customer Review: Works well so far
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I read through the other reviews before putting hand to keyboard...having used this device only twice thus far, I cannot vouch for its longterm endurance. If it fails to operate in three weeks, I surely will revise my review.

But for now, it's working, and it works well. I have had no problems with waffles sticking or messes being created. It would appear that if one actually follows the instructions of the manufacturers, everything works pretty well. The waffles cook quickly and easily, and pop out of the iron without any struggle. The device is also relatively compact and easy to store in my pantry. My only quibble with the design thus far is that the cord is a little too short. I either have to stick it on a counter right next the outlet (which can be awkward) or drag out an extension cord.

However --- echoing another reviewer, I think that a $150 price tag is more than this device merits. I might buy it for $80; I would be more likely to buy it for $50. $150 does not seem to be a reasonable price for this. Drop it to $50 and I might give it five stars.

Customer Review: The Perfect Waffle
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
If you ever wanted a machine that makes that perfect restaurant quality waffle, then look no further. The set up instructions were easy (You must read the manual). The manual is easy to understand and provides some basic information on use and cleaning of this unit. I have read other reviews of the product, some noting that the machine shorts out or sparked. In most cases, this would happen if you submerged the machine in water when cleaning it. The basic look and feel of this machine shows that it is definitely commercial quality and will last a long time under normal use. We bought the Krusteaz brand Belgian Waffle mix, which was easy to prepare. We used the # 4 setting; however, you can increase the setting for a browner more crisp waffle. The #4 was the recommended setting and the waffles came out perfect, one after another. Since the surface of the machine is non-stick, cleaning was a snap with a wet towel. The cord hides underneath the unit and even though the unit is quite large, it is easy to store. I would recommend this unit to anyone who loves Belgian Waffles.

Customer Review: Poor design and cheap build by Waring
Summary: 1 Stars

This is a common story about this product. I bought this from another site as a refurb so I didn't have high hopes, but the price was right. 39.00 US dollars. First time I made waffles I put the batter in, rotated the iron and the bottom hinge fell off. It's made of very thin cheap plastic so I doubt if this is a professional model. Not wanting to pay return shipping I figure I could rig it back together. Easy, just super glue the broken plastic shoulders back on, then drill two small holes through the bottom hinge for longer machine screws and tighten with small washers and nuts on the outside. Worked great, and you can only see the fasteners when the iron is rotated to the first cooking position.

Well long story short, second time I used it I made two waffles and the thermal fuse blew. Not wanting to give up, I dismantled the POS again and bypassed the fuse. Now I know you shouldn't do things like bypassing circuit protection but I am making sure the next time this acts up it will be the last. In fact, the next hiccup this thing makes and I will smash it to pieces and put in the trash just in case some trash picker thinks they might want to make some waffles on the cheap. Save them some aggravation.

This will be my first and last Waring appliance.

Customer Review: Yummy, terrific waffles!
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my first Belgian waffle maker and I chose this make/model after reading a lot of reviews.

Why I love this waffle maker:

1. Audible beeps tell me when a) iron is ready and 2) when waffles are done. I don't have the luxury of standing and watching for lights to go out (which is how some irons indicate readiness).
2. The nonstick surface works beautifully - no more picking away at the edge of a waffle that won't come loose. The waffles literally fall away from the iron.
3. The overflow tray - easy clean up.
4. Out of sight power cord storage.
5. Easy-to-clean exterior surface.

I tried the "overnight" recipe from the manual. Made super light, airy waffles, but they were a bit light on the "4" setting, so now use a setting nearer "5". Contrary to some user comments, I found that the included measuring cup fills the iron with too much batter. I also suggest taking it VERY easy with the non-stick spray. The irons do a terrific job of releasing the waffles, so don't overdo the spray because too much will definitely affect the waffle texture and color.

This iron cooks up a waffle in mere minutes and makes serving waffles just like those at restaurant Sunday brunches a breeze!

Customer Review: WASTE OF MONEY.... Won't last to long

DANGER... DANGER... DANGER... WASTE OF MONEY. (This review below is my experience with the WMK300 but during my research I found out it is a problem with all Waring Waffle Maker models.) I received the WMK300 from my girlfriend for Christmas in 2007. I loved it for the 3 months that it worked, than it wouldn't heat up anymore. I got upset and just put it in storage because I didn't want to make my girlfriend feel bad since she purchased it for me. So months went by and I forgot about it until I was craving waffles and it was a while since I visited IHOP. So, I decided to buy another one, with my girlfriends okay, and I started to do some research because I didn't want to waste money on something that wouldn't work again. I found out that the reason that it stopped heating up was because of a thermal fuse. I was excited because I wouldn't have to get another waffle maker I just had to replace the fuse. So about 3 weeks later it blew out again. I give up. Time to do more research and buy a different brand of waffle maker. So, if you are thinking about purchasing a waffle maker I would stay away from this type because during my research I found out that this is not an rare problem. SO STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS... KEEP ON LOOKING....
