Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Waring WMK300 Belgian Waffle Maker, Brushed Stainless

Customer Review: Got a lemon
Summary: 1 Stars

The thing died after the fifth use. I was in the midst of using it when it just stopped working. I was on my third waffle that morning and at first I thought I had missed hearing the indicator bell, so I let it go a few more minutes. After about 3 minutes time I opened it to find the waffle was partially cooked. I closed the lid and let it go for 4 minutes more, thinking it odd but maybe it just needed more time. When I opened the lid the unit was only warm and not hot. I knew something was wrong, but hoped that maybe I had upset the timer by opening it and closing it. I turned it off, unplugged it, turned the setting down to 1 and let it sit for several minutes. I then removed the uncooked waffle and tried the whole process over again. I plugged it in, turned it on and set it to the 4 setting; the green ready light never came on, it never beeped and it never got hot. Since I only owned the thing for 2 weeks I was able to return it to the store where I purchased it and got a refund. I did notice a common thread in the reviews, almost all the negative reviews had the same problem, the product stopped heating up after only a few uses. If you're considering buying this product perhaps you'll get lucky and get a good one, as for me I'm finished unlike my waffles. I would not recommend this product!

Customer Review: Fantastic waffles a few minutes out of the box!
Summary: 5 Stars

I read what seemed an infinite number of reviews for many other waffle irons on Amazon before deciding on this one by Waring. From the reviews my expectations were quite high but I wasn't disappointed. It looks great is well constructed and feels sturdy (important for the flipping action).

I followed the instructions to preheat and season with oil or spray before use. I let it cool off then wipped off the oil before reheating it again to make my first waffle.

I used a Krusteaz waffle mix and it came out fantastic. It was crispy outside, light and fluffy inside. I wonder if they make "freshly baked waffle" scented candles because the smell was heavenly.

IMHO, this unit is well worth the money! Note however that I'm still buzzing from my first home-made waffle so the review may be biased. 8-)

I still have this unit after almost 5 years and it still makes great waffles. The waffles have been a huge hit with everyone that's had them. I continue to use the Krusteaz Waffle Mix most of the time and have tried many recipes. I usually make them with fruit including bananas, all kinds of berries and sometimes nuts. I'm getting a second unit so I can make two at a time for breakfast parties.

Customer Review: Great for the office too!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Purchased this waffle maker about 2 months ago for my office. We've got a kitchen and I figured that this would be a change of pace from bagels and donuts. This waffle maker has been a huuuuge hit. Extremely easy to use. Makes a perfect waffle everytime. Just pour in the pre-made batter, close the lid and flip... wait for the ding... flip back open and put that fresh waffle right on the plate. Can't get any easier!! I actually purchased a second one for the office as well. I've got 30 people here and I thought it would be great to make 2 at a time since everyone devours them so quickly. Did I mention I'm the boss at the office. Everyone loves the fact that they know I can't cook but that I'm an expert waffle maker. It's a lot of fun and a nice morale booster.
I recently purchased this waffle maker for my house as well. I now make waffles for the wife and kids just about every Sunday morning. It's extremely easy to clean as well... literally no cleaning... the trick is to spray Pam (or similar product) on the grates in between each time you make a waffle.
I have never had a single problem with this waffle make either... and I can tell you I've made quite a few waffles with this Waring Pro in the past few months. It definitely is Commercial grade.

Customer Review: The Dane says, "Heck of a value and 3 minute waffles!"
Summary: 5 Stars

I am extremely pleased with this wonderful waffler. I bought it at one of the local club stores to replace my trusty old Villaware iron; a splendid product from back when Villaware was Italian-made.

This edition produces waffles as well as my old one, although some parts feel as though they were made quite cheaply, so I don't recommend jostling it too much. Here's a blow-by-blow of my first waffle with it:

After reading many of the reviews, I made sure to use Trader Joes no-lecithin oil spray, and seasoned the iron following the included instructions (using setting 5). I whipped up a batch of my famous(ish) Sourdough-starter waffle batter and poured in 3/4 cup. After 30 seconds, I flipped the iron over, and waited the remaining two minutes to the beep (it's a really loud beep, fwiw).

I was able to remove the _perfectly_evenly_cooked waffle with my fingers, as it was COMPLETELY free of the iron, no stick whatsoever. Needless to day, I was very pleased.

The waffle had the right custard-airy texture, an excellent crisp crust, and easily split apart into the requisite 4 quadrants.

It is a heck of a deal at Amazon's price, and as such, I highly recomend this waffler.

Customer Review: Fixing the waffle iron with Radio Shack parts
Summary: 3 Stars

I also had the problem with the thermal fuse burning out (light comes on but waffle iron doesn't get hot).

Other reviews have described how to find the fuse on the underside of the lower heating plate. I wanted to add information about using Radio Shack parts found locally to fix the device.

I bought the "443°F (228°C) Thermal Protector Fuse" as a replacement. It's rated a little lower than the 240°C fuse described elsewhere, but I suspect it's not that big a difference.
[...]

After cutting away the old fuse, I used "Crimp-On Telephone/Alarm Connectors" to connect the new fuse to the existing wires without needing to solder.
[...]

I held the connectors in a candle flame to burn off the plastic coating prior to installation. Otherwise, the plastic would likely burn up the first time the waffle iron was heated up.

The biggest problem we had was re-assembling the waffle iron after installing the fuse. The screw holes in the waffle iron deform easily and we had problems getting the screws to stay in place when putting them back in. My wife came up with a fix involving using longer screws, but that's a whole different story . . .
