I was tired of lumpy pancakes (and envisioned a warm, fluffy cornbread in my not-too-distant future as well), and so I convinced myself that I 'needed' a hand mixer to complete me. I took my time researching customer reviews vs. price for hand-mixers, and settled on this one.
The device is just what I wanted. It's light and well balanced in the operating position, and it sits easily on the counter in the upright position (like an iron sits when not in use). The stainless blades lock into place smartly, remain firmly in place during use, and eject effortlessly with a gentle press of the spring-loaded eject button. The control panel lights up as soon as the plug is inserted into the wall socket. The cord is well-built with a strain-relief for added longevity, and medium length for ease of use in a modern kitchen with sockets conveniently placed along the back wall of the countertop.
Contrary to what someone said in their review, I found the #1 speed to be just perfect in getting the mixing process started. The motor control even ramps up the speed from zero rpm to the final #1 speed so as to prevent spillage over the edge of the mixing bowl. (Incidentally, the depth of the blades is 5 1/4' from bottom of unit to tip of blade.) Speed control is simple and easily accomplished with the thumb, leaving the other hand free to hold the bowl. The speed and mix-time readouts are nicely backlit and easy to read.
Cleanup is easy as the blades have no recessed surfaces that would trap food. I also found the included instructions adequate and mixing tips useful.
Very nice machine. I highly recommend it! (P.S. noticeable improvement in pancakes without changing anything else but the mixing. Looking forward to that cornbread!)
