Customer Review: It works but rollers are a fatal flaw

It is a good idea and looks OK. It makes decent hot dogs (much better than boiling) but they are not cooked 100% evenly either. This is probably because the rollers are made of such cheap thin metal that you inevitably get hot spots. I know because I just finished taking the whole thing apart to see if I could make the thing any easier to clean. The short answer to that is no. There is a whole lot involved in taking the rollers out. Many screws have to be removed, gears removed, and electrical connectors disconnected.
What I found out when taking it apart is that the whole device - other than the rollers - is surprisingly well constructed. The drive train is all metal with no plastic parts. The gears are really heavy duty. The wiring looks well done without any weak points. The whole thing can be taken apart since it is screwed together. It is all wasted though with the rollers they used.
The weakest link is those lousy rollers. Besides the cheap, thin metal they are constructed out of, the non-stick coating is also very cheap and thin and will come off when you clean the rollers - which will lead to more sticking, which will lead to more scrubbing to get them clean, which will lead to more non-stick coating coming off. If they could be put the rollers in the dishwasher, maybe they wouldn't have to be scrubbed so much, but short of taking the whole thing apart there is no way to do that.
The drip tray is also really cheap and will become stained with use. This is not a critical flaw since it doesn't come in contact with the food, but it still looks bad.
As a disposable appliance it works fine. But it isn't going to last very long. Eventually it will become impossible to keep clean with the non-stick coating gone and will have to be thrown away. That is why it only gets 2 stars.
