Just purchased one of these last night, and put it to use immediately. I was a bit surprised at how simple (flimsy) the components seemed to be. It's not a heavy duty piece of equipment, but it looks nice when put together. The thing that I like about this fryer is that each piece easily deconstructs, so that they can be thoroughly cleaned. It was pretty easy to put together. It does take quite a bit of oil to get it to the "fill" line, though. For some reason, I was surprised by how large the unit was. The basket is shallow and wide, but the unit itself will probably occupy a good, 1 1/2 ft wide x 2 ft deep part of your countertop.
I tested some battered mushrooms with this, and only cooked up a few, but they were PERFECTLY golden brown and CRISPY within about 3-4 minutes. One of the keys to proper cooking with this thing is 1) heating the oil fully to a high temperature (there is a ready light to let you know when this is done). This model goes up to 375 degrees, and it seemed to do fine. Heating the oil with the lid on helps make this happen faster. 2) If you can, cook your foods as close to room temperature as is safe, so the temp of the oil drops LESS when you put the cold food in (and immediately replace the lid to bring the oil temp back up); 3) do not crowd food in the basket.
I LOVE that you can cook with the lid ON to avoid all that spattering mess on your countertop. The lid is vented, so that steam still escapes. Overall, so far, I have no major complaints...oh...except one...the plug. The plug on the back is very strange. It's magnetic, so it doesn't feel like it seats firmly, and it falls off with a minor touch; though the manufacturer says this is by design for a safety feature. I understand their logic, but a more firmly seated plug would still give me more peace of mind. Otherwise, so far, I really like it!
