Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of WMF Vino Stainless-Steel 4-Way FunnelCustomer Review: High Points on Quality, Function, and Looks Summary: 5 Stars
I was really impressed with the quality and design of this item. Beautifully polished metal with no noticeable flaws anywhere. As with any polished stainless steel you'll want to limit the amount of time it is in contact with any acidic liquid. Give it a quick rinse and hand dry it immediately.
The wine flowed gently and evenly from all eight holes allowing it to smoothly cascade along the sides of my decanter. This will definitely captivate your audience. The strainer fit snuggly within the funnel and will serve its purpose for pieces of cork or sediment particles in aged or homemade wine. A removable strainer is a great feature.
I paired the funnel with the Bormioli Rocco Loto Wine Decanter and they work perfectly together. As others have mentioned, the funnel tip is too wide to fit into a standard wine bottle. If you wish to transfer the wine back into a wine bottle any inexpensive funnel with a narrower tip will do. Had this Vino funnel been designed with a narrower tip it would have taken longer to aerate an entire bottle and would increase the risk of overflowing the funnel cup. I was able to aerate a 750 ml bottle in a matter of seconds.
Customer Review: Very nice tool for RED wine drinkers Summary: 5 Stars
Facts: The diameter of the aerating tube inserting a decanter is about 18mm or 3/4 inches. The diameter of the top funnel is 90mm or 3.5 inches. This won't insert to a neck of regular wine bottle -- you need a decanter. The straining mesh is just sitting inside the funnel and is removable. The two pieces making this product are easy to hand wash. This product does aeration and filtration at the same time. Aeration is often used with young to medium aged red wine to smooth out the tannic flavor and possibly improve the integrity of the wine. Filtration is often used to remove solid material (twig, etc) often contained in bottles from more serious price range, and sediment formed from well aged wines. Some reds might even benefit from double decanting with aeration at each decanting. With this funnel, it is very easy and clean to do. White wines very rarely benefit from these steps, but this funnel at least looks great especially with a nice decanter. This funnel can also be useful with other purposes, like removing spice and other solid material from drinks, sauces and broths.
Customer Review: Should have read the reviews Summary: 3 Stars
Well, I should have read the feedback before purchasing, my bad! I bought this item because it looked awesome, and it does in person, in fact, even more impressive. However, after trying with over 10 bottles now I was miffed because (as the lead review states, which again, my bad for not reading) it doesn't fit in a single one! I decant just about every red that passes through my lips for at least a couple of hours and I have several decanters that work well. And this device works well with all my decanters. HOWEVER, most of my decanted reds I need to funnel BACK into the bottle because I then proceed to a restaurant to enjoy with a fine meal (and I really can barely cook popcorn or noodles). So my need to place most of these back in the bottle has been thwarted. I just can't walk into a restaurant with a decanter, it would make me look even more pretentious than I already am by bringing my own wine.
In summary, awesome looking unit, just wished they had made the stem longer and skinnier so it could serve my purposes.
Customer Review: Great price, great product Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I went to a wine tasting where they used a wine funnel to speed up the aeration of a red wine. I am far from being a wine connoisseur but even I could tell the difference between the aerated wine and the non-aerated one. We bought my father-in-law a funnel and decanter for X-mas that year from the winery. When I went back to get one for my hubbie they were gone and they weren't getting any more in. It turns out wine funnels are difficult to find in stores so I went searching on line. I had already bought my husband a carafe so I was worried about the funnel fitting properly. I looked around and read lots of reviews and decided on this one. We couldn't be happier. It works great with the decanter I bought and I think it would work with just about any decanter. It is very well made and the screen comes out easily for cleaning. Does a great job and it was less than half the price of the one we bought at the winery.
Customer Review: A Must Have..Like My Grandfather Used Summary: 5 Stars
I don't really have any other insight to this funnel than has been said already...but my Italian Grandfather used something like this over 100 years ago for his home made red wine and I have followed in his footsteps. I remember him pouring wine out of a huge barrel through a spicket and putting it in a hand made glass decanter through a similar funnel. I didn't realize until much later in my life what he was doing...it aerated the wine, trapped some sediment, and got it ready to breathe in the decanter, right before dinner...like I now do with EVERY bottle of red wine I drink. You won't believe the difference in the taste of the wine. Incredibly simple and effective. Great investment if you drink even a few bottles of wine once in a while....but remember, you have to purchase a nice inexpensive glass decanter too!
