Customer Review: Great opener but pieces broke very quickly

The opener itself works extremely well; as promised, it does not disintegrate corks. It's heavy, feels substantial, looks good, and the foil cutter works perfectly.
The only downside was that about two weeks after we got it, one of the black plastic sleeves on the corkscrew legs disintegrated. These sleeves let the corkscrew rest on top of the bottle, to provide support to twist the screw into the cork. The result, we have to squeeze much harder to keep the body of the corkscrew in place while turning the grip. If WMF improved the quality of the plastic, this would be a perfect corkscrew for years and years of use.

Two of WMF's high-quality wine tools, the corkscrew and foil cutter in this set are made of steel plated in bright chrome. They're heavy, substantial, luxurious, and beautifully functional. The corkscrew fits both traditional and flanged bottle necks, and its nonstick spiral pulls a cork in a single, continuous motion, penetrating the cork and then lifting it into a pair of black, synthetic holders inside the tool's arms. The cutter has a button that, when pressed, tightens three sharp, stainless-steel roller blades around a bottle neck's rim to quickly, neatly, and safely slice away foil. --Fred BrackCorkscrews & Openers
