I use an electric can opener at home. So when my job took me out of town for an extended period of time, I needed an interim can opener. I bought one - name brand - at Target. It worked a few weeks and then went kaput. After struggling with it for a while and ending up with mangled cans, I bought a different name brand opener at Target. The experience was much different; this one failed immediately.
So I did a little online research and found this little gem. Reviews both on and off Amazon were very encouraging. I saw fairly quickly that this German-design tool was in fact made in China as were the other two. But I understand some things about quality control. There are resellers who buy cheap junk with an eye toward turning easy profits. Then there are exacting manufacturers who have chosen to use Chinese facilities and labor to remain competitive, but who remain fully in charge of the final product. My gut told me this was just such a product.
And I am not disappointed in the least. It's about twice the price of those two worthless pieces of junk, but since their worth was negligible, the WMF Profi Plus can opener is infinately more valuable (do the math). Honestly, this can opener operates more smoothly than my electric opener back home.
