Customer Review: Great for closed rooms; not so much for large, open rooms.

With some trepidation, I ordered this product from Amazon despite some of the negative reviews and in my short time spent with the heater, it's been a benefit. I live in a two-story home with an unfinished basement. During the winters (which seem to start in September here) the cost of heating the entire house to a comfortable level can be prohibitively expensive. Space heaters have the benefit of comfortably warming occupied bedrooms without my wasting money warming the unoccupied rooms. The EH1 quickly warms each of the 120-sq. ft. rooms to 75-degrees in just under 30 minutes and maintains that temperature for as long as the unit is turned on. The unit's thermostat can be set as high as 90-degrees and the three available modes are fan, high, and low. The low setting has been adequate for all of my needs so far, but in my largest room, we found the need to use the high setting to see an appreciable increase in temperature. From my experience, poorly insulated rooms that are larger than 160-sq. ft. will be too much for the EH1 to handle, but it performs admirably otherwise. The "Vortex" moniker is misleading as, unlike Vornado fans for instance, the EH1 does not move a lot of air, even at high settings. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the EH1 doesn't break down on me anytime soon and I'm hoping that keeping it free of dust will prolong its life.Customer Review: Vornado EH1-0028 Great Product

I purchased the Vornado EH1-0028 based on reviews I read on the Web. I have had it one month and have not been disappointed. I'm using it to heat a 12'x16' shop. I normally work late in the evening in my shop which is insulated. We had an unexpected early fall temperatures with daytime highs in the lower 40's and nightime temps in the upper 20's. My plan is to turn on the heater a hour or so before I plan to work in the shop.One evening the inside temp was 42 degress. I turned on the Vornado to high to let the shop warm up. In one hour the temperature was up to 58 and within the next 30 minutes it was a comfy 72 degrees. It warms the entire shop area with no hotspots. It's a little strange not feeling really hot air blow out like most space heaters. I really like that once it reaches the preset temperature it maintains that exact temperature until I turn it off. It's quiet and works better than I expected. I'm glad I bought it. Customer Review: Loved it then soooo disappointed.

Bought this heater for our young daughter's room last winter. We did use it every night but were sure to shut it off every morning. The consistant temp. option was great as I'm sure it helped her sleep through the night with no chill/hot fluctuations since she didn't know how to use a blanket yet. When the weather finally started to warm up we still used the unit to circulate the air as it was a weird summer and didn't warrant the air conditioning much at all but the circulation of air was very nice. I'd say we used the Vornado slightly more than "average" use.
Our first snow of 2009 was last weekend....the Vornado was broke. We turned it to "heat" for the first time this season and the unit would just shut off. I would have expected this unit to last at least a year!! Hopefully it's just a lemon as the unit was great when it worked. We do plan on buying two more and giving them a second chance but I have read other reviews with the same problem....

I wanted this for my baby's room and after going through 2 other heaters I was afraid I was never going to find the right one. Well- I'm glad I finally ordered this one. The heater is safe (with the auto shut off) and quiet. Also- it provides gentle, effective heat throughout the entire room.
I think its a tiny bit pricey but its worth every penny.
