Over powered for smoothies??? NO! What do you think Jamba Juice uses? I worked for a grocery store for 6 years and we used the Vitamix in the coffee area, Let Me Tell You...the machine was used ALL day EVERY day and only had to be serviced ONCE in the six years I was there. It ground ice all day and the drinks were extremely consistant. Customer Service is AWESOME! We beat those things up. The plastic never became cloudy or discolored. They are very easy to clean especially if you fill them with hot water when you're done. If there is goo on them that is hard to get off, put hot water and a little dish soap in the blender and turn it on. NO PROBLEM! LOVE it and can't praise it enough. We were hesitant to pay hundreds for a blender but now that I have it, I dont know how I ever lived without it. It has been a wonderful addition to my eating habits and breaks down the cellulose of greens to make them more absorbable to the body.It goes great with a book called green for life which explains all the great benifits of green smoothies. If you were to start this program, health would improve almost instantly! I am now getting allot more vitimins and minerals from my food than I used to, it keeps me on a raw food diet and is also good for soups. If theres something that my food processor cant do, the vita-mix can! I use it at every given oppertunity and makes great smoothies of any kind, even if you are not a raw foodist.Customer Review: Wow - just brilliant

Just got the 5000 model of this machine (the only difference being that the 5000 has a variable speed control as well as the High and Low speeds) and am so impressed. Due to ill health, I wanted something that could handle making smoothies out of anything I threw at it, in order to obtain as much easily-digested nutrition as possible. And I have not been disappointed - I can't believe how quick and easy it is. I've had a few good quality blenders through the years, but this really is the best. My only niggle is that I live in the UK and the price is DOUBLE what you pay in the States - it really is a rip-off. But aside from the financial burden, I am glad I got it as I think it will be worth the investment healthwise.Customer Review: love this blender

This is a great product and well worth the money. For years I juiced and threw away the pulp. I wished I had had this blender seven years ago when I started juicing.
I make green juice with carrots and things that don't blend well in a normal blender. I do have to add water to the green juice but only because it is thick! Pay the extra money and get this blender. I also like that it only has two speeds, nothing digital to break or too fancy. Just the on/off button and high/low button. The clean up is so much easier than juicing too. You do have to cut things up to fit, I also place them in vertically and they blend much faster. None of that bothers me. NO MORE JUICING!! VITAMIX BABY!

My husband and I considered buying a Vitamix after friends made smoothies for us and talked about how much they enjoyed theirs. We had a good blender,and because of the cost, we didn't buy one right away. We joined Weight Watchers, and thought the Vitamix could help us change our eating habits. It absolutely has! We eat a lot more fruit than we did before, we're losing weight, and we feel better. It also tastes like a filling treat and not diet food.
I am usually the cook at our house, but my husband has become the Master Vitamix chef. He plans to buy one for his office so he can make smoothies instead of eating the goodies that are there.
