Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vita-Mix 1300 TurboBlend 4500

Customer Review: Vitamix Review
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this blender!! It seemed pricey to me, but I've had mine for about a month (down to about $10 per smoothie!) but I love it and expect it to last a long time, based on what friends have told me about their machines.

Two great things about this blender. First, it is so easy to use: no assembling to use and disassembling to clean. It is one piece. I find myself using it in place of my food processor also because I don't have to go through the hassle of putting the pieces together.

Second, I have become hooked on "green smoothies." I can put anything in this blender and it purees it into a smoothie consistency. I put spinach and raw carrots in and then add whatever fruit I want with some cold water and the blender can make it into the consistency of thick juice. I'm experimenting with broccoli next. My whole family is eatting tons more fruits and veggies and that makes it worth the price to me.

Customer Review: Sturdy and Steady
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using the Vita-Mix for about a week now and continue to be pleased with how easy it is to use and clean. At least one reviewer said it's hard to clean unless you clean it right away. Well, duh! Thick mixes will leave thick residue if you let them dry. That's true of any mixer. All you have to do with the Vita-Mix is rinse the lid and container thoroughly right after you pour your shake into a glass. Couldn't be easier. Another reviewer described it as noisy. All blenders are noisy. I had an Oster before the Vita-Mix that was so shrill I couldn't run it unless I covered my ears. The Vita-Mix is somewhat loud but at a low frequency that's not at all a problem. I make green smoothies but wasn't satisfied using kale because a regular blender just couldn't handle the somewhat tougher leaves. With the Vita-Mix I can use any fruit, any greens including kale, and the result is completely smooth liquid in seconds.

Customer Review: Best Blender Ever Made
Summary: 5 Stars

I used to have a cheap blender I bought from a local retailer but I was always dissatisfied with the kind of juice it made. Blend tomatoes and it would leave out the seeds. One day I saw a demonstration of Vita-Mix 5000 Series blenders at a local show and was blown away. I bought one and what a world of difference it has made in my life. You can do practically anything with this blender from smoothie and hot soup to whole gran bread dough.

It is a versatile machine and very powerful. The only downside , if you can call it that, is that it is quite loud. You may not hear your phone ring when it is on but despite the noise I still think it merits 5 stars rating. They now have a newer version 5200 series but the older models are still adequate and they all come with 7 yrs warranty. The containers are shatterproof too. They may be expensive but they can last a lifetime.

Customer Review: Product is OK when working but customer "service" is not
Summary: 2 Stars

We have a Vita Mix, the 5000 which is similar to the 4500, and it has been malfunctioning on and off since the first week. The product is great when it works, but when it doesn't I sure don't feel like it was worth almost $400.

Vita Mix customer "service" is a joke. The first time we called we were told both "you aren't using the product correctly" and "it is working the way it should". Hard for me to beleive that a $400 blender should thermally trip off and stay off for 20 minutes when chopping ice or frozen fruit for smoothies --- it's kinda what it was purchased for!

The second attempt at "service" we were told that the drive gear was probably bad, they would ship the part and I would have to replace it. I was told I could NOT return the item until this had been tried. Again, for $400, I don't expect to be servicing my own appliances.

Customer Review: Worth every penny!
Summary: 5 Stars

OK, so I know you're thinking "do I really need to spend $350+ on a blender?" Well if it was just an ordinary blender, I'd agree. But, this is no ordinary blender. This is a blender/food processor/spice chopper/ice chopper/smoothy maker etc.. all in one. It grinds seeds and grains into flour, literally in seconds. I buy whole wheat berries and throw them into the' Turboblend' for a few seconds until it turns into a flour then add a little olive oil and water and make delicious flat breads on the stove.(bread that is actually good for you!) When you blend raisins or apples or anything for that matter, it blends to such a smooth consistency that there are no chunks or pieces left. Of course if you want it left chunky just blend it for less time. Anyway, this is a great machine and by the way, clean up is a breeze. Stop thinking about it and just buy it!
