Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator

Customer Review: Works, but needs some care
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been using this product daily for almost a year and it does what it's supposed to. This review is to let you know that you will need to give it some care, though. It comes with a rubber stand, but if you use the aerator and just put it back in its stand, over time it will grow some nasty things in the wine drippings. So, you need to keep an eye on the stand and make sure you wash it and the aerator often. Also, mine has developed an apparently permanent red staining, too. If you rinse it out after each use, it cleans most of it off, but over time, and repeated use like mine gets, it takes on a dark red staining in some parts. Nothing I can do about, but I don't use it for show. I have a design suggestion for the manufacturer: if you placed small, raised dots near the air intake holes, that would help. When I first grab it, my fingers often cover the holes. If I had some tactile clue where the holes were, I could easily move my fingers.

Customer Review: Better if done 2-3 times
Summary: 5 Stars

I was skeptical at first since I've spent some $$$ on decanters. There's always a wine gimmick around the corner, so again I didn't quite believe the hype. Boy was I wrong... I agree with others where they say "it works!"

The slurping sound is a bit strange, but the outcome is undeniable. Smoother, brings out the bouquet to the nose, along with flavors. The first pour through, I used a Napanook 2004. There was an improvement in the bouquet, but more so the smoothness on my palate. I wondered what would happen with few more passes. So I repeated it 3 times total. What a difference! Tried one glass fresh out of the bottle and compared it to the glass that was filtered 3x -- I had an unbiased observer and they thought it was two different vintages of the wine!!!

I like my cab's so that's my experiences so far. I'll experiment with a chard or a shiraz in the near future and give an update.

Customer Review: Spend your money elsewhere

I have used the Vinturi in many blind taste tests on myself and friends & family members who know & enjoy wine. It did not reliably change anything about the wine (taste, bouquet etc) that caused any of us to know which glass had been aerated. Even those people who swore up and down that the Vinturi worked could not pick which glass had been aerated, leaving them confused and a little irritated.

Even if this trinket worked, I could see a price of ten or fifteen dollars. But forty dollars? Forty dollars can buy you a great bottle of wine - Grgich Hills chardonnay, Turnbull cabernet sauvignon and Duckhorn merlot to name a few. These silly trinkets come and go, but great wine will always be here for us to enjoy. I suggest you skip the gimmicks and enjoy wine for what it is. Either that or invest in this company's stock, because they've invented a product with an astonishing profit margin.

Customer Review: Vinturi wine aerator
Summary: 5 Stars

At first, I though this was just a time saving gimmick that claimed to reduce the time waiting for a fine red wine to breath. But I found that it really works. For the skeptics, I poured three small glasses of a just-opened red for each of my four tasters. Without them observing the pours, I gave each taster one glass that had been poured through the Vinturi and two that had not and asked them to note differences. Each taster identified the glasses that had been poured through the Vinturi as superior. As a further test, I allowed a red to breath for a half hour and repeated the test. Everyone graded the wine that had been poured through the Vinturi as smoother and thought it was a higher qaulity. It is also fun to use; it creates a captivating sound and will definitely get your party involved.

The Vinturi is impressive, fun and will positively add to your wine drinking experience!

Customer Review: Something fancy for your wine
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this for my boyfriend who has been intrigued by Vinturi for a long time. Wine and related gadgets are his territory. We have tried a few store around, but never found it on the shelf. Finally I decided to order one.

As advertised, this little device does improve the taste of wine a lot. We both agreed that the wine tasted richer and fuller after pouring through Vinturi. On that account, it was a good purchase. Plus, the price from Amazon was pretty good.

Other extra credits are the reactions from friends. A good friend who is quite knowledgeable about wine asked "what is a wine aerator?", which gave me a chance to show my 'expertise', :)

The aerator makes funny sound when you pour wine through. That's just how this thing 'forces' wine to breathe. So probably you should avoid pouring wine using Vinturi directly to your guest's glass.
