Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vinturi Essential Wine AeratorCustomer Review: This thing really works! Summary: 5 Stars
The Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator is a simple device. You simply pour your wine slowly into the top reservoir and make sure when you are holding it you don't cover the small holes on the side. You can aerate into a decanter or into a glass. See? Simple.
But does it work? I wondered myself but after reading the reviews, I bought it and started the testing. I tested a range of red wine varietals from inexpensive to moderate, and it worked on all of them. I even tested a $2 Chuck, which it did help, but actually did the least for in all my tests. I immediately noticed the aromas were more mellow and smooth, the mouth feel was softer. None of these were hard to determine. The change was night and day for almost every bottle. So I was convinced. But in the interest of science and the possibility I am crazy, I thought more testing was in order. (Ok, it was an excuse to drink more wine with friends..)
So the second round was with wine aficionados and I poured all glasses out of sight and let the tasting begin. Each and every person was amazed at how well it worked, even though they were a skeptical bunch.
Bottom line: It works, it is ridiculously easy to use and if you are interested to have your red wines taste their best, buy yourself a Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator.
Customer Review: The Wine Aerator I never received..... Summary: 5 Stars
Now you might ask yourself why is he writing a review for a product he doesn't have. Technically I purchased this item because living in wine country in Germany I felt it would be a necessary addition to my home. Based on all the other reviews I would be right in assuming this. However, I never got this item. The US Mail system is to blame and Winning Gifts were and are some of the best Customer Service Personnel I have ever encountered so I wanted to write and in instill some much earned "kudos" on their exceptional customer satisfaction.
I eventually got my money back because we never received our item but to my suprise today my wife and I received two boxes of their exquisite Truffels. We never asked for this and it is very nice that they sent us this to apologize apparently over the fact that we didn't get our order. THANK YOU! There are very few companies that take the time to be this thoughtful to send us a free gift.
This is a company I would recommend to anyone to do business wth because Customer Satisfaction seems to be a priority to them and I will be reordering this item very soon as they have reconvinced me that they want to take care of their customers. Good Job Winning Gifts! You all deserve to be recognized for being a great business.
Customer Review: What an Upgrade to my Cheap Wine Collection Summary: 5 Stars
A great little tool for red wine drinkers. I have a decanter, which can really help with young red wines, but I have to be prepared to drink what I pour into decanter that night, then clean the decanter afterwards, a bit of a headache if I just want a glass or two after work.
Enter the the Vinturi.... Really enhances the flavors of the young (inexpensive) reds I like to drink, such as Cabernet, Shiraz, and Merlot. Sometimes those reds can have a heavy, sort of bitterness to them, but one pass through the Vinturi, and they mellow out big time, and taste much better!
As for ease of use, after pouring 2-3 glasses through the Vinturi, you will be a pro and have no issues in it's operation. I was skeptical at first because of its small opening at top, and overfilling before the wine could funnel out of the bottom. No need to worry on either front, this little gadget just works great, and the small stand catches any lingering drips after you pour.
As a bonus, you get a filter that fits in the top, if you come across a bottle with excess sediment, and a storage pouch, if you plan to take the Vinturi on a road trip with you.
A great gift for yourself or anyone you know who enjoys red wine.
Customer Review: Does it work? Sometimes ... Summary: 3 Stars
To be clear from the start, this device does aerate wine. It does so more quickly, but more crudely, than a careful decanting. And the remaining wine does not have the large surface area exposed to the air that it would in a good decanter.
Does it make the wine taste better? That depends on whether the wine is enhanced by the aeration. For wines with aging potential that aren't yet at their full potential, some air can help. Some "big" wines need air when they are "released" from the bottle. On the other hand, more delicate wines or wines on the downside of their peak can be hurt by aeration.
Most mid-level wines released today are designed to be ready to drink right out of the bottle when they hit the market. They are seldom much enhanced by aeration. And poorly made wines aren't going to be fixed by this device.
In my experience about 5-10% of wines actually benefit form this gizmo. And I won't use it with a really good wine--for those you should plan enough time in advance to let them breath in the bottle or decanter.
In summary, there are times when it helps, but it is not going to provide a daily improvement in the wines you drink, nor magically fix the clunkers.
Customer Review: Honestly one of the best things I have ever bought! Summary: 5 Stars
I first saw the Vinturi Aerator at a wine store near my house. It was being used on a wine tasting and the owner of the store was giving samples of the wine using the Aerator and a normal pour. I instantly could tell the difference of the same wine and the Aerator took an ok wine and made it a good wine.
I am an average wine drinker...open the bottle and pour. I am not going to pour wine in a decaunter and I dont care about the proper glass to use. However the Vinturi is a cinch to use, simply hold over your glass and pour wine thru and a normal pace and it will drain into your glass. There is a strange sound while this happens, nothing to be alarmed at. The taste is noticable and I would say it adds 4-5 points to my rating scale and really opens up the wine and softens the wine making it much smoother.
There are two seperate Areators for red and wine. I own them both and really can not tell the difference so just stick with one for both wines and you will be fine. In addition you can spend more money and get a display stand, but really this stand alone is all you need. I have bought 6 so far for gifts and every one person has told me the Vinturi was their favorite present.
