Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Villaware V2160 UNO ProPress Panini GrillCustomer Review: Panini Grill a Winner Summary: 4 Stars
The Villaware Panini Grill has proved to be a very useful appliance, so much so that I leave it out on the counter - it's quite attractive, and certainly not an eyesore. I use it often, for grilled sandwiches, of course, but also for grilled meats and fish. I would caution users to avoid meat with bones, e.g. lamb chops(you can't get a good sear when the bone keeps the surface of the meat away from the grill), and to be very careful about timing: things get done twice as fast! While the cleaning "comb" is useful to get most of the remaining food or fat off the grill, you still need to fold a paper towel and clean each groove separately; much easier to do if the grill is warm (not hot). I haven't tried grilling vegetables, yet, but it should work perfectly on zucchini sliced the long way, or eggplant, or peppers.
I am very happy with the quality of this product.
Customer Review: A Real Gem Summary: 4 Stars
I searched long and hard for a panini grill at Christmas and this was definitely the best value for the money. Although it is large, it's not as big as some other models, and it works like a champ. I looked at Krups and Cuisinart, both more expensive models. The Krups, frankly, looked rather flimsy, and the Cuisinart was bulky and overpriced. The Villaware looks great, is not so heavy you can hardly pick it up, and is still large enough to make two terrific grilled sandwiches at a time. Much better than the smaller Foreman grill I previously owned. The sandwiches come out toasty, crisp and perfectly browned and melted. The grill is sturdy and clearly well made, and should stand up to anything, including chicken or fish. It is definitely a best buy. Of all the things I've purchased on Amazon, I am most enthused about this. Great grill for the money.
Customer Review: "It don't get much better than this"! Summary: 5 Stars
I use it daily and it has never let me down. It's a very handsome unit. I don't understand all the comments about "hard to clean" because it does not have "removable plates". I am of the opinion that removable plates would make it less efficient-it wouldn't get as hot as it should. Cleaning as it is now designed is no big deal and I hope that Villaware does not change the design. I just wipe mine clean with a paper towel while it's still warm. Besides, with the heat that his baby generates, germs and bacteria dont have a chance. And what's all the fuss about the lack of a on-off switch? Whats so hard about just unplugging it when you are finished using it? PICKY, PICKY, PICKY! I have yet to have anything stick to the plates and that includes cheese. The POX on anyone who gives this unit less than 5 Stars! I plan to purchase another one!
Customer Review: Great for panini, not as good for meats Summary: 3 Stars
I have owned this Villaware Uno Panini Grill for about a month, and use it constantly. I bought it as a George Foreman substitute, and use it primarily for chicken, fish, and burgers. Although it does a very good job on all of those meats, I have spent an inordinate amount of time cleaning this machine. With meat, as opposed to a sandwhich, cleanup is a bit more involved, and since you can't get some of it wet - complications arise. Could someone please invent a machine just like this one, but with removable grill plates? The other thing to be aware of is the temperature gage. Paninis seem to require a hotter surface, while meats sear instantly on the lowest temp. Be careful with steaks if you like them rare to med-rare. It is easy to overcook them. At times, i'd like to slow down the cooking a little, but this is not really a major problem.
Customer Review: Not so hard to clean Summary: 4 Stars
I was another lucky person who found this panini maker reduced at Sam's. I really like it a lot, and only deducted a star because it's a bit unwieldy when cleaning. I learned long ago, with GF grills, that I could not be happy scraping one clean. I need what I cook in to be washed. My trick is that I take it to the sink, Hold it on it's side, and give it a quick spray on the plates, Then I clean it with a nylon vegetable brush, and spray again. It cleans easily and quickly. I never let it sit in water, and stand it on it's side, drain side down, to dry. I've been doing this for over a year and haven't had a problem, and did it with my GF before. Removeable plates would be wonderful, but till then, I love the even heating and ability to grill a lot at once. I do a lot of grilled vegies besides chicken, burgers, steaks and chops.
