Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of VillaWare V2002 UNO Belgian Waffler, Round

Customer Review: Great Waffler
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the Cuisinart Pro Waffle maker for my husband's fraternal organization's pancake breakfasts. Only to find out from another lodge that that one burned out in less than a year's time. Wanting a waffle maker for my home, I saw Alton Brown's waffle show recently, and I believe this Villaware UNO was the one recommended. Good enough for me! I love it. It makes a perfect one serving size waffle. Took me a few tries to figure out that 3/4 cup batter is the perfect amount; it would have been very nice of the manufacturer to publish this in their little manual. Even is some of the batter runs over, it is so much easier to clean than the Cuisinart. And the best part, it can be stored vertically, taking up a fraction of the room that the clunky Cuisinart does. Highly recommended.

One thing - can anyone tell me how on earth to wind the cord around the bottom??????

Customer Review: Looks nice; hard to adjust temperature
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a well-built waffler. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is easy to clean, and the waffles release easily from the non-stick surface. I have not found the "ready" signal to be loud and bothersome as mentioned by some others. Maybe this is a newer version.

I would have given this appliance five stars but I continue to have trouble getting the temperature setting just right. At the highest setting the crust comes out very crisp, but the innards are a little under-baked--that is, the crust gets well done and the inside remains rare. When I use a lower setting the whole waffle is under-cooked. I have only used this waffler five or six times, so I need to gain more experience with it. Other wafflers I have owned have not been so hard to get used to.

In spite of the temperature setting issue, I would recommend this appliance to a friend.

Customer Review: Great waffles, annoying beep
Summary: 4 Stars

There is a lot to like about this waffler, but the most important is simply "Does it make good waffles?". The answer to that is "yes", and I am pleased with the crispy exterior and tender interior (I have only used the Golden mix so far, that is available on Amazon too, and really like it).

The variable heat setting seems useless to me, because even on the highest setting (7) I still have to leave the waffle in a bit longer to crisp it up to the level I prefer. Anything lower than 7 just seems like it isn't even cooked enough.

The worst part to me is the alarm "beep" which is loud and incessant. I get to hear it when the iron heats up, and every time it reaches temperature. I'm not a morning person to begin with, and listening to that noise is a bit much.

Bottom line though, if I want a delicious waffle, this machine comes through.

Customer Review: Waffles Split Open
Summary: 1 Stars

I just bought this product, hoping that a new, well-rated waffle maker wouldn't allow waffles to split open upon removal, like my previous, old waffle maker. No dice. I made 8 waffles over the course of 2 days. As to the first 4, I brushed the surface with vegetable oil, and on the other 4, I sprayed Crisco vegetable oil on the surface, in each case as per the instructions. The results: 4 split open, on 2 I had to delicately remove the waffles with precision of a surgeon, which was time-consuming, irritating and dangerous, and the other 2 came out perfect.

Since my old waffle maker had this problem at the end of its life, it might be inferred that all waffle makers are deficient in this area. Or perhaps I just lack the well-honed skills necessary to remove a waffle from a waffle maker! In any case, we've give up on waffles in our house, sadly.

Customer Review: It just makes waffles...
Summary: 5 Stars

It's really nice when you buy a product and it just does what it's supposed to do. This was a Christmas present for my wife and I knew she wouldn't use it if it was too complicated, if it was messy to use or difficult to clean up.

Well, here's the deal: It works just great and the first (and last) waffle that popped out of the little sucker was just perfect. She found that it was easy to guesstimate how much batter to put into it without overflow and it just doesn't have to be cleaned up much because the waffles easily pop loose. It "beeps" when it's ready for batter and it beeps again when your waffle is ready. Couldn't be simpler.

It's small, easy to store and the cord stores neatly on castings in the bottom. It would be a great addition to any kitchen (even in an RV because of it's small size). Buy two if you have a large family!
