Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of VillaWare V2002 UNO Belgian Waffler, RoundCustomer Review: Technically good Summary: 4 Stars
I really like this waffler maker. The size of the waffle is good enough for one person, or divided in 2-4 parts, for kids. I like my waffles crunchy, so to get the texture I wanted I have to set it to 7, and then maybe add another minute to the cooking time. The buzzer doesn't really sound like a dead bird (as some reviewers said); it's not even that loud...not a problem in my opinion.
The reason I gave it 4 stars: the writing on it (Power, Ready, the numbers, etc) are not engraved in the material, thus when you wipe it clean the numbers could erase (making it difficult to set the knob to the desire temp). Luckily, I noticed it before I erased the numbers (the Waffle Tone and the sound symbol got erased though...urgh!). See, I sprayed the inside before making the first batch, and the grease got on the surface where the writing is. I had to use a sharpy to reinforce the writing. I wish I would have known about this "flaw" before I purchased the product.
Other than that, it's a great machine. And now, is $10 cheaper than when I bought it (at $52).
Customer Review: Nice Engineering Summary: 5 Stars
I make a lot of whole wheat waffles for my grandchildren, which they freeze and eat as snacks throughout the week. So, I need a waffle maker that performs well, as this one does. When you open the cover, the steam is deflected, so your fingers don't get burned. The lights, signalling when to add batter, are large, bright and easy to see. The chime signalling the waffle is done is easy to hear. The waffles, even the first one,(set on 6) are visually perfect(important to children), very thick, crisp on the outside, moist on the inside. The deep waffling holds butter and syrup nicely, so there isn't a puddle of wasted syrup(real maple) left on the plate. Waffles don't stick, are easy to remove. There was only a tiny bit of overflow on one waffle, and that was easy to wipe off. There are no places for batter to flow into and create a cleanup nightmare. The unit feels heavy, substantial. The only drawback is that when you store it on end, it opens, as it doesn't lock. Who cares? I store mine in a bag. Compared to other waffle makers I've owned, this one is a dream!
Customer Review: Easter Treats Summary: 4 Stars
This is my first waffler and I love it.
I bought if for an Easter brunch and was a little concerned since I had never made waffles before. I have no complaints at all. I read a lot of reviews before I purchased and this had the best compliments etc ... I'm happy I picked this product ... and I have to say, I like the beep that it makes to signal to me that the waffles are ready. Yes, some have told me all you need to do is wait until the steam is gone. But if you're doing 5 other things like I was, it's great to know that the waffler will remind you when it's done. You can always leave the waffle in there longer if you wish. I followed the directions and used a small bit of oil to coat the inside before using and I also placed the cooked waffles on a cookie rack to "dry" while making other waffles. I have done it without drying and the waffles get a little "soggy" while waiting. I used the BAREFOOT CONTESSA pancake/waffle mix- it was VERY easy and tasted REALLY good! Good Luck w/ your search... I recomend this product!
Customer Review: Villaware makes the best waflle irons Summary: 5 Stars
Villaware waffle irons really are the best. Most reviewers rate this product very high and I feel the same way. This really is a great product. I am looking forward to buying a second one.
My absolute favorite waffle recipe is:
Plain Belgian Waffles
4 eggs, separated, room temperature
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. sugar
2 cups flour
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted and cooled
2 tsp. baking powder
1 cup milk
1/2 tsp. salt
Beat egg yolks and sugar in a bowl until light. Add cooled, melted butter or margarine, milk and vanilla extract. Add flour, baking powder and salt. Beat well. Beat egg whites until stiff and gently fold into batter.
Others have said the manuals aren't on their web site, but for most of their products the manual is there. Sometimes you have to check a different product to find the information you are looking for but the information does seem to be there.
Customer Review: Hot! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not sure there's much to be said here - it does what you expect it to - makes great waffles.
It gets hot quickly and it's hot, so it cooks the waffles as fast as you'd expect. The build quality is nice and the cord wraps into the base. The VillaWare label is just a sticker and mine fell off. But that does not matter. The round shape is great for getting even coverage when you pour in the batter. It makes a nice thick waffle -- just one is pretty filling.
I would not have predicted this, but I mainly use it for making Jiffy corn bread waffles. The recipe is on the box and they're delicious! I make them for breakfast sometimes, but they're awesome with chili. One hint to make your waffles better: make your batter before you plug in the waffle iron. This gives the batter a little time to come together on its own. The wet soaks into the dry, and the risers have a chance to start working. Your waffles will be lighter and fluffier.
