Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of VillaWare V2002 UNO Belgian Waffler, RoundCustomer Review: Fast baking Waffle-maker Summary: 5 Stars
I may have already written a review for this waffle-maker, but since writing that one I've discovered an update to the waffle recipe that I wrote about in the previous review. Since the Krusteaz brand of combination waffel & pancake mix (that calls for milk instead of water is so difficult to find), I decided to try the Krusteaz Belgian Waffle (only)-mix. The recipe on that box calls for using water also, but when I used the directions on the box the results were terrible. The batter was way too thick and the waffles hardly raised a bit, resulting in a very tough consistency that didn't taste good at all. So I decided to substitute milk for the water and the results were unbelievably much better.
Here is the recipe that I use instead of the one on the box--3/4 cup of milk, 1 cup of waffle-mix, 1 egg, and 2 TBs of oil. This recipe makes a batter that is not thick and if you use about 3/4 cup of batter (for each waffle) the end results are a waffle that rises up nicely and has an unbelievably light texture to them.
This is an amazingly fast waffle-maker. It heats up rapidly to begin with, and then bakes the waffes in no time at all also. I usually set it at the mid-range of the temperature control or the bottom of the waffles gets a little over-baked.
Customer Review: Makes great waffles Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this waffler to replace one that had a broken handle. I like the overall structure of this model because it is so sturdy. the hinge on the back is huge, so I know it will last. Also there is no flipping involved so there wont be strain on the handle. I love the audible beep. Its really loud, which for me is a good thing, since I am always doing something else while the waffle is cooking. I love the variable heat setting too. That is a nice feature since I sometimes do dessert waffles which need less heat. I love the compact design. Its small enough to fit nicely into my cabinet. The cord has a nice place to tuck into to keep it from damage. As for its ability to make waffles, its excellent. It makes beautiful, fluffy, classic style Belgian waffles. I have been using it every weekend since I purchased it about a month ago, and every time my waffles come out perfect. My waffler has turned out to be one the appliances in my kitchen that gets regular use, and has become a favorite kitchen toy. The price is great too. Not too expensive and such a quality product. I also own the villa ware pizzelle maker and have had it for years without any problems. I recommend this waffler to anyone out there looking for a good waffler and cant make a decision. You wont be disappointed.
Customer Review: Works like it should. Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first waffle maker, so I can't compare it to others. But, after using it perhaps 10 times in 3 months (I'm not a huge breakfast guy), I will say that I always look forward to pulling it out of the cabinet for use.
I usually make waffles for friends who stay over, as it makes breakfast into more of an event, and Alton Brown's amazingly easy recipe has never failed to get compliments. I always end up with a few extra waffles in the freezer, too, which is nice.
The waffle maker itself isn't that attractive - the raised fins on it don't really do it for me, but it is very good at what it does. I cook the waffles with the heat setting on either 6 or 7 (7 is the highest it can go), and they come out nicely browned on the outside and soft on the inside. I usually give it a quick spritz of PAM before I use it (very light spritz, you don't want an oily first waffle), and wipe it off with a paper towel when I'm done with it. That's about the only cleanup I do with it. I never have any trouble with batter being stuck to it after using it, except perhaps on the outside if I've overfilled it. That just wipes off with a damp sponge, though.
Overall, it does what a waffle maker should do. I'd recommend it to friends.
Customer Review: Very Good Waffle Iron Summary: 5 Stars
We have cooked approximately four-dozen waffles with this waffle iron in the month or so that we've had it (we eat some, freeze some for busy week day mornings and give some away), and the iron produces consistently top quality Belgian waffles. We like our waffles to be brown and crispy on the outside, and to produce this, we turn the heat all the way up, and then let the iron continue to cook approximately one full minute after the green light and "done" alarm come on.
It is my belief that no waffle iron is easy to clean up after cooking a dozen waffles, and this one is no exception. However, this waffler isn't particularly difficult to clean up, either. I've learned how much batter to use and so I don't have too much overflow now like I did the first batch.
We use a very light spray of Pam on the irons about every third waffle and we haven't had even one cooked waffle to stick. I like this waffle iron very much -- it's easy to use, relatively easy to clean, and it cooks up some fantastic buttermilk Belgian waffles that are so good, I nearly don't balk at the price of the pure (real) maple syrup that we serve with the waffles.
Take your time. Find a very good scratch waffle recipe. You'll enjoy this waffler!
Customer Review: Very Satisfied!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this waffle iron as a birthday gift for my mother. I read all of the reviews in regards to this product and was hoping that it would live up to it's expectations, especially because it was a gift.
My mother loved it!!! She said that she used it for the first time this morning and made absolutely restaurant perfect waffles!!!! She said that the ready beep was not bothersome at all, and stated that maybe someone with a small apartment might have a different opinion about the sound, but had no complaints.
She said that the size, crispiness, thickness, amongst other things were perfect. She said it was also very easy to clean up. No spill over or stickiness to the iron.
She said she could hardly wait to manipulate her waffle recipe to include nuts, blueberries, and other complimenting items.
Thanks for all your reviews!!!!
I ordered this product on Amazon.com, and was very impressed with the timeliness of the order, from the time of the order to the actual date of delivery was exactly five days with standard delivery. The only problem I had was that I ordered the product gift wrapped and the item was not gift wrapped, however, I was quickly refunded the difference.
