Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vidalia Chop WizardCustomer Review: #1 KITCHEN TOOL! Summary: 5 Stars
This chopper is great! I use it daily. I use it for celery, peppers, onions, strawberries, nuts, carrots, apples, hard-boiled eggs for egg salad. The secret is not to put too large a piece on the blades to chop. Keep your pieces of reasonable size and don't try to do too much at once. That way, you don't jam the blades.
I cannot imagine a negative review on this kitchen tool. It's well-made and sturdy. As far as cleaning goes, use the little tool to clean it. Anything that doesn't come out with that will come out with the force of your sprayer. Then I run over it and the blade with a bottle brush. The wonderful job it does chopping far outweighs the time it takes to clean it.
I gave it to my sister for Christmas and she said that it was her best gift! I recommend it to anyone who wants to lessen the time he or she spends in the kitchen.
Another benefit to this is that I have less finger cuts as I always seem to nick myself with my very sharp paring knife!
Customer Review: Works OK if you are careful with it... but eventually breaks :( Summary: 3 Stars
I was given this as a gift and while it does work... you need to be very careful with it or you will break it! It does what it claims to do - chops onions, tomatoes, peppers, cukes, etc. but you need to do some leg work first. You can't put half an onion in this thing - you need to at the very least quarter it. Now if you don't like chopping things into tiny pieces... but don't mind quartering say your bell peppers, then this thing is great! You quarter the pepper and let the chop wizard do the fine chopping work, but again be careful not to overfill the chopper and don't 'force' the top down. If it doesn't do the job with mild pressure - then the pieces you put in there are too big.
I did end up breaking mine, but it was almost 2 years old and those first few months learning the tricks of it probably didn't help on the wear and tear. I did purchase another one as I do like using it for cobb salad recipes especially.
If you buy one... just be careful with it!
Customer Review: Indispensable! Summary: 5 Stars
Although I'm not much for gadgets, I adore this one ... It makes cooking truly effortless, quickly and easily chopping vegetables (onions, carrots, garlic, celery, peppers, mushrooms, potatoes, squash, etc. -- I use it for everything), and is then plopped in the dishwasher. Although I have a Cuisinart food processor, I much prefer this for small amounts/quick jobs.
Despite almost constant use (and inumerable trips through the dishwasher), mine is still going strong, and seems indestructible.
The one caveat is to first cut large vegetables into halves or quarters, and place them in the chopper CUT SIDE FACING UPWARD. Likewise, I strongly recommend putting this on a kitchen table rather than a countertop, because that is lower, so not as much pressure will be required. (I'm not very strong, but I just put both hands on it and press down. Works fine, and is a zillion times easier than chopping by hand.)
IMHO, this is truly indispensable!
Customer Review: Would Not Be Without It... Summary: 5 Stars
Over the years I've bought about every kitchen gadget you can think of, most of which end up stored god knows where. I bought the Vidalia Chopper about 4 years ago. A while back while fixing dinner, my wife, always the skeptic, commented, "If this ever breaks, you better have a spare somewhere...I use this as much as anything we own."
Buy bell peppers or onions on sale, in minutes you have a bag of what appear to be perfect, commercially prepared packages of diced veggies ready to pop into the freezer and use when you need them.
I've been pretty hard on this machine, but so far so good, nothing has broken. Of course one wants to use common sense, I'm sure if you tried to but a big potato or a huge onion in there you could manage to break something, but I just slice them in half, position them, and it works ever time. Perfect for dicing baked potatoes for O'Brien style hash-browns. This does EVERYTHING they claimed and is well worth the money.
Customer Review: Vidalia Chop Wizard WORKS! Summary: 5 Stars
I love to cook but I hate having to chop up vegetables (ie: carrots, onion, peppers, mushrooms) into small sizes because I'm afraid of cutting my fingers. The Vidalia Chop Wizard takes that fear away. You just place the vegetable on top of the blades, push the lid down, and you're done. It's not messy and it saves time. I love apples, but eating them is uncomfortable for my teeth. Not anymore. After removing the core, I place the apple on the Vidalia Chop Wizard and next I have 1 cup of bite sized apples I can eat. The only complaint I have is that the blades are difficult to clean if there is food stuck to them. Also, it takes a little muscle to push the lid down on the Vidalia Chop Wizard, but it works. If your onions aren't being chopped all the way, you should try cutting it into quarters, which is what the instructions suggest. Thanks to the Vidalia Chop Wizard I don't have to worry about cutting my fingers or my hands smelling like onions. Good product!
