Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Victorio VKP1013 Round Three-Tray Kitchen Seed SprouterCustomer Review: I got one for my mom, and now one for myself! Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE IT!! Jars are good and all, but this sprouter is compact, easy to clean and with a neat-durable-resistant design. The one I got my mom cost 15 dollars, mine cost 11 something, and I am seing it at 10 now... I do not know what they are reducing the cost with... the $15dollar one had better packaging, but mine had a little bag of alfalfa seeds, and it arrived in good condition. the seeds were enough to sprout 9 individual trays with the recommended quantity. Really great deal!
Customer Review: Not for serious sprout growing Summary: 1 Stars
This is what I am calling a "hokey" sprouter. It's small, hard to clean (with all the little grooved circles on the bottom) and doesn't rinse the sprouts well at all. My sprouts end up slimy and rotten every time. Sprouts should be rinsed VERY well, this unit does not allow proper rinsing, the vessels are to small and the syphoning action way to slow to provide a good rinse. It's one of the useless things to spend money on. I should have known better.
Customer Review: great gift for kids Summary: 5 Stars
I gave one to some kids I spend a lot of time with. I also gave them some sprouting seeds to go with it. They LOVE it. It's so easy to use. And it teaches kids how to take care of something because they have to run water through it twice a day. And I had one about ten or twelve years ago, I loved being able to grow my own sprouts. For a good children's gift I would suggest giving three kinds of sprouting seeds, one for each level.
Customer Review: Great product, easy to use Summary: 4 Stars
It's easy to use this to grow sprouts. The only critique I have is the lid splits easily if you try to take it off without paying attention. Otherwise, we're having a lot of fun experimenting with different seeds and seeing how they sprout. We tried mung beans which produced big sprouts with a strong flavor, good for stir fry. We didn't much like lentils, but alfalfa, which came with the sprouter, was really good.
Customer Review: Works fine for some beans, but not seeds. Summary: 3 Stars
This germinator works fine for sprouting anything as large or larger than lentils, but if you try sprouting mustard, alfalfa, etc they are gonna mold. The grooves in the trays just let them sit in water.
The siphon action is good, but make sure to have the siphons tilted 'downhill' after the water has gone into the collection tray, and you will be surprised how much more water comes out.
