Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Victorio VKP1013 Round Three-Tray Kitchen Seed SprouterCustomer Review: Great...can I get extra trays? Summary: 4 Stars
I have had this for about 4 years and have used it quite a few times. I have never had a problem with mold, mildew, slime or the water siphoning correctly. You should add water once a day and dump it once it gets to the bottom tray. I always throw the used tray in the dishwasher beofre starting it with new seeds.
I am preparing to improve my diet to eat mostly raw food and would like to eat a lot more sprouts. This unit is a little small for the sprouting needs of a large family. I wish I could get extra trays for it. But it is so cheap, I guess I could just buy a second unit.
Customer Review: pretty good Summary: 4 Stars
good little try, i would change a couple of things...
they aren't quite tall enough.
the top tank isn't really necessary as you could just as well fill the top tray with water, if you had a lid.
the siphon is pretty ingenious, but the seeds slip under it, and you have to clear it a couple of times before they start growing, or it gets really stuck in place, and clogged.
the alfalfa that it comes with all germinated quickly and gave tasty sprouts.
all in all better than jars or bags, I would say, but it could use a little improvent.
Customer Review: Needs Improvement Summary: 1 Stars
I had a wonderful sprouter for years that worked extremely well, eventually it needed replacing; this one has many issues. First the product is made of thin cheap plastic. I ordered 2 and one arrived broken. The water does not move easily through the trays, even when you line up the pipes to complete the setup. One positive is the company has a phone number for help and a person actually answers the phone. Even with that help, the water still pooled on different levels that was leading to mold. Sprouting took longer than it should. I returned this product.
Customer Review: easy compact kitchen-counter garden Summary: 5 Stars
So easy I'm sorry I waited so long to try it! Living in a small apartment for several years, I've missed having an outdoor garden to grow my own vegetables. This is a great alternative for me. Just remember to run water through it twice a day. (My brother recommends 3/4 trayful of water with 1 tablespoon vinegar, followed by 3/4 trayful of plain water (don't forget to empty the bottom water tray), to supress undesired things such as mold; this is working great and the seeds are sprouting fine.) For seeds I'm using "zesty sprouting mix" from NOW foods.
Customer Review: I never realized this would be so easy Summary: 5 Stars
I just harvested my first crop and can't wait to get started on the next one. (For my first crop, I only did one tray, just to see how successful I'd be.) The only caveat: after the seeds have sprouted, the seed coverings might accumulate under the little flower-shaped caps that wick the water and restrict the water flow. Lift the caps up slightly and clear the area under them out with a toothpick to be sure the water flows freely.
Now that I've seen how easy this is to do, I'm going to order the big seed sampler I've had my eye on.
